ALEXANDER ROSS Obituary

ROSS, ALEXANDER HUGHSON Unexpectedly, on March 23, 2023, in Kingston, ON, after a short battle with endocarditis. Ever the genealogist, Dad would want you to know all the details. He was born on November 3, 1945, in Toronto to Donald Mackenzie Ross and Ruth Elizabeth Galvin. Predeceased by his only brother, Donald "Sandy" Ross; and grandsons, Nathaniel and Samuel White. He leaves behind his wife, Linda Ross (née Bell); his daughters, Amanda Ross- White (Michael White) and Katherine Ross (Darryl Montgomery); and his grandchildren, Rebecca and Alexander White. Dad coached our softball teams, and taught us to drive stick and do a perfect drift into the corners. Alex could talk the hind leg off a dog, so we are finding our world a lot quieter now. We wish we had been better listeners. Honour his memory by writing down stories while you still can, making a friend out of a stranger or learning to fly a kite. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation at uhkf.ca would be appreciated. We are very grateful for the care he received these past few days. Please join us in celebrating his life at Edith Rankin Memorial United Church, 4080 Bath Rd., Kingston, on Saturday, April 1st. Visitation at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m.

Somehow I connected with Alex several years ago through our combined love of genealogy. I was a distant cousin of his mother in law and wife. We worked on those families together.

I am the third-degree cousin of Alex's father, Donald Ross. Alex made me aware of my great-grandaunt Susan Laughrey beyond 1845. Alex was the great-great-grandson of Susan. I made Alex aware of the fourteen siblings of Susan, and of her parents Patrick Loughry and Mary Patton.

I´m very sad to hear of the passing of Alex. I spent many a Cord layout weekend with Alex and enjoyed his company as much as his stories.
