Alvin Duncan Obituary

DUNCAN, Alvin B. Aberdeen - Passed away peacefully, in his 95th year, at the Post Inn Village Nursing Home, in Oakville, January 29, 2009. Alvin was the beloved father of daughter, Arlene Duncan, grandfather of Matthew and Yuri Koller, beloved brother of Urban and Grace, and surviving sisters Dorothy, Marian and Jean. He is sadly missed by his niece, Lorraine, extended family and friends. A decorated Veteran of World War II, serving in the RCAF, Alvin was a lifelong resident of Oakville, whose family history traced directly back to the Underground Railroad. An avid historian, he was well known for his presentations to school classes on the subject of the Underground Railroad and as a member of the Oakville Historical Society and Oakville Black History Society, he shared the results of his extensive research with the Oakville Museum. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road W., Oakville, on Thursday, February 5, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009. Interment at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery, 1149 Dundas St. W., Oakville. Those who wish may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Online condolences at www.koprivataylor.com
