ANDREW BROWN Obituary

ANDREW GORDON BROWN At an event near Aberdeen, Scotland, while holding his beloved bagpipes and wearing his kilt, Andy passed suddenly. Andy Brown was a loving husband to Pat, his wife for 13 wonderful years. Spending their retirement enjoying times with family, friends, travel and events around Piping. "Till a the seas gang dry, my dear And the rocks melt wi' the sun: I will luve thee still, my dear, While the sands o' life shall run." Robert Burns Andy was the proud and loving father of Gordon Brown (Bill), Donald (Sandy), Ian (Bernice), Kelvin (Kelly), Stephanie Inglis (Dave) and Laura Inglis. He was much loved and will be missed by his eight grandchildren: Eric and Jana, Zachary, Ross and Mitchell, Kate, Taylor and Hayley. Andy emigrated from Glasgow, Scotland in 1955 and was a Chemical Engineer for Imperial Oil. He later changed careers and enjoyed 29 years with the Scarborough Board of Education and retired as the Principal of Bendale BTI. Many knew him best as a Piper at their special events. He was still an active member with the Highland Creek Pipes and Drums, playing on his 80th birthday at the Durham Highland Games. He also played with the Panama City Pipes and Drums during his winters in Florida. Andy was predeceased by his wife Peggy Larkin-Brown (mother of Kelvin) and Jenny Brown (mother of Gordon, Ian and Donald). Also, Ian's late wife Linda. A cremation service was held September 5th in Hamilton, Scotland. Attended by his sister Ann MCLeish, brother David (Moira) Brown, his nephews and families and extended family. A memorial service will be held at the HIGHLAND FUNERAL HOME - MARKHAM, 10 Cachet Woods Court, on September 15, 2012 and will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. If desired, donations may be made to a Scholarship/Award for Bendale Business and Technical Institute students. Information will be available at the service. He was "A gentleman, a scholar and a judge of fine liquor" and will be sorely missed.

Gord, Bill, Pat and Family

We are so sorry for your loss.

Andy had such a larger then life personality, a kind heart and a gentle heart. He was tremendous fun at parties, being one of the Panama City Beach Snowbirds gang! But my favorite memory of him will be the time Pat, Andy, Gord, Bill and my Mum & Dad came to my house for dinner. Andy pipped in my backyard to all the wonderment of my neighbors! What a special evening, what a special man.

Are thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

His friendship, always smiling face, along with his many stories and corny jokes, could never be forgotten. Knowing Andy in Highland Creek for well over 25 years has been an honour and a pleasure. There is no finer example of a Gentleman. Pat, My deepest condolences on Andy's passing. I'm sorry I haven't had the chance to meet you yet. I am one of the newer members of the Highland Creek Pipe Band and from the moment I met Andy two years ago he went out of his way to make me feel welcome. He introduced me to other band members, encouraged me and helped me as I learned the new tunes. He complimented me as I got up to speed and was the first person to congratulate me when I proudly marched in my first parade. Andy was a true gentleman, a mentor and a friend and he will be sorely missed.

Hello Pat,
We are sending our sincerest condolences to you and your families. We have great memories of those times spent with you both in Panama City Beach - at Bang-bang shrimp, piping down the sun at Sunrise Beach Resort and last, but not least those excellent times at Holiday golf course - Andy with a very sparse collection of clubs last year, still valiantly played on!!! I enjoyed the anecdotes from you both of your days with the school board - I could relate to them all too well. We loved his laugh and sense of humour, and his leaning in, as he delivered the punch line, in conspiratorial terms. Our thoughts are with you.

I have many fond memories of Andy through the Pipe Band. Whenever the band approached in a parade, Andy always gave me a "wink" in recognition while blowing his pipes. It became routine for me to look for that "hello". We also had many enjoyable discussions of Jamie Fraser and the works of Diana Gabaldon, Andy being the first man I knew of who read the series! What a classy person he was, I am so sad to hear of his passing. Pat, my thoughts go out to you and your family, and I wish you all the strength and support in the times ahead. Take Care, Andrea

Dear Pat and family,
Words do an injustice in explaining how much we will miss Andy. He will remain very alive in our memories and admiration. Sunsets at Panama City Beach Fl will not be the same. The sweet sound of Andy's piping at sunset was pure magic. We will miss you Andy,

Andy was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. We had some fun and happy times with him and his wife, Pat. Infamous New Years Eves, lunch get togethers, visits we shared with them in Florida and at our cottage on Balsam Lake. A lovely memory comes to mind of Andy standing on our dock at sunset playing his pipes across the water. He was a wealth of knowledge and eager to answer any questions we asked of him. He particulary loved answering our questions on Scotland, it was obviously so dear to his heart. He will be sadly missed by so many people whose lives he touched. Our sincere sympathy to his wife, Pat and their Family. Love Doreen and Lou.

"Cheers"

Dad,you are a great man, you left this world in a great way. If this was a hollywood script, it would have been rejected as being not being believable.
You left this world doing you what you loved.... playing the Pipes{in a kilt of course} and telling stories to the locals.

He was a rare breed; a true gentleman. He was a walking, talking history book and a great resource that he would let you tap into anytime you needed. Every time I saw him he had his pipes in hand and played them proudly. He was a presence and today heaven is a little bit livelier.
My deepest sympathies to his children, grandchildren and his beautiful, lovely wife Pat. If there is anything I can do xo

I only had the pleasure of knowing and for the last 3 years thru Highland Creek Pipe Band, during that time he always had a kind word, and Man, could he tell a story, sometimes two or three at the same time.

The last time I saw him he was beaming while being recognized on the stage at Uxbridge for his birthday, as well as his time in the Pipe Band.

He was a true gentleman, and I am glad I was able to meet him and get to know him, even if it was for only a short period.

Rest well Andy and know that whenever we hear the pipes, you will always be on our minds and in our hearts.
