ANDREW SANDILANDS Obituary

SANDILANDS, ANDREW "ANDY" CHRISTOPHER December 25th, 1958 - August 12th, 2022 We are heartbroken to announce that Andy passed away in his 64th year on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Ross Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side, after a short but extremely brave battle with cancer. Andy is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Marilyn (née White); and his two children whom he adored, Ross and Claire (Bradley). Andy is also survived by his brothers, Paul (Martha) and Mark (Allison). He'll be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his brother-in-law, James White; nieces, Joanna (Ryan), Jessie (Erick), Jennifer (Dan), Stephanie (Mark); and nephews, James, Christopher (Jasmine) and Darryl (Nicole); his extended family and many friends. Andy grew up in Scarborough, where he met the love of his life, Marilyn, in the marching band when he was 16. They were together ever since and married shortly after graduating University. As newlyweds, Andy and Marilyn moved to the Beaches where they travelled and then raised their family. He was a devoted father who was always there for his children, from the PTA to early morning drives to school. He enjoyed road trips with his family, spending many a summer driving to Maine, up and down the East Coast, and many trips to Nashville for their next adventure. He loved watching the Argos, college football and horse racing with a highlight having attended the Kentucky Derby for his 60th birthday. Andy studied Radio and Television Arts, leading to his long career in Radio Broadcast Sales, where he was a friend and mentor to many. Andy truly made the most of life, making friends everywhere he went. You would be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't remember Andy fondly. A kind man and born conversationalist, Andy was a voracious reader and could strike up a conversation with anyone on anything. Hours passed like minutes when you talked to Andy, and you always left a little wiser, with a smile on your face. Andy loved his time in the country, spending weekends with family, enjoying the peaceful times reading outside, listening to music and watching the birds. After retiring, Andy, Marilyn and Ross moved to the country full-time along with their beloved cat Larry. A proud father, Andy was grateful to have been able to walk his daughter, Claire, down the aisle and dance at her wedding to Bradley in June. He left us far too soon. A time to Celebrate Andy's life will be held on Saturday, August 27th, at Mount Lawn Funeral Home in Whitby. Visitation with family and friends begins at 10:00 a.m., with service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. Following, there will be refreshments, drinks and a toast to Andy, where many stories can be shared. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations could be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or Epilepsy Canada.

Marilyn, Ross, Claire & Brad:
We were both deeply saddened to learn of Andy's passing. He was a very warm person with a great sense of humour, quick witted and kind. And gone far too soon. Jessica told us the service was lovely and a fitting tribute to him.
We send our condolences to you and a wish that in time, his memory brings a smile to your lips before a tear to your eye. Sending you all a big hug.

Andrew Sandilands was a gentleman and a scholar - and a wonderful and kind next-door neighbour. We will always treasure the memory of many casual chats out on the driveway with Andy. To Marilyn, Ross, and Claire & Bradley, we offer our most sincere condolences. May Andy's immediate family, extended family and close friends find peace and strength at this very difficult time.

Andy was a wonderful soul littered with kindness, consideration and love. He was always quick with a joke and a smart man at that. His radiating kindness lives on in our memories forever. Rest in peace Andy. Our utmost condolences to Marilyn, Ross, and Clare; our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Andy was just a great guy. Smart as a whip, could talk about anything and always on an even keel. I called on him when he was a media buyer and then hired him eons ago as a Radio Sales Rep and, of course, he was a GREAT rep. But more than all that, he was a good friend and a loving family man who was so in love with Marilyn and a great Dad to the kids. He truly would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Nothing but great, wonderful memories of a fine man who I was honoured to know.

Marilyn, Ross and Claire, I am so sorry.

Andy was quick with a smile or a joke, he loved you all fiercely and he was a huge impact on my children as their adoring "funky unky". I send my deepest condolences and sympathies.
