Andy Tzemis Obituary

TZEMIS, Andy —

July 15, 1948 - February 21, 2017

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my big brother Andy Tzemis. Born in Athens, Greece on July 15, 1948, Andy came to Canada with our mother in 1958, one year after our father had arrived. Following his graduation from Sir Wilfred Laurier University, Andy pursued a career in sales and advertising working with CFNY and CFMT. He had an outgoing and sincere personality that you couldn't help but love. Always quick with a smile and a kind word, Andy made everyone around him feel better. He was and will always be the life of the party.

His involvement with AHEPA was his hobby and his passion. He spent most of his life supporting the community work that AHEPA was involved in which included volunteering as a big brother. Being an avid sportsman, nothing was more precious to Andy than to watch his niece and three nephews play in their various sporting events. Always with a post game encouraging word and thought, uncle Andy was their premiere fan.

My big brother was loved by so many great and caring friends and adoring family that I know his presence will be missed tremendously.

The single most wonderful characteristic about Andy was that no matter what, he was always there for his family and friends. His unselfish words "what do you need man?" will forever live in our thoughts. Now, with our prayers, we are all here for him.

May God Rest your Soul and may Eternal be your memory.

Andy is survived by our mother Polymnia and myself Phillip and my wife Maria and our children Peter, Stephanie, Michael and Anthony. He is now with our father Peter watching over us all.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding South of Steeles). Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 24th at 11 a.m. at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 222 Burbank Drive.

We love you Andy.

Very sad to hear of Andy's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Andy at CFNY. I was in the news department, and Andy would often drop by to shoot the breeze. His brother Phil kept me posted about Andy on my visits to the dentist. My condolances to the family

Andy was a huge walking, talking, smiling heart! Just seeing him would make my day. His youth was eternal and his positive attitude contagious. I thought he would be around for ever. He would immediately try to help people even if they never asked. He will be missed so very much! My condolences to the family.

I'm so sad to hear of Andy's passing! One more reminder that we need to connect with those who mean a lot to us while we can!! I didn't! I too am one of the many people Andy mentored through his CFNY days!! I worked with Andy for almost 9 years and he was one of my favorite people!! The last time I saw him was at our CFNY reunion but that's several years ago now too! One of my favorite memories of Andy was when he decided he'd treat us to lunch at one of his favorite outdoor restaurant in Kensington Market on a summer Friday afternoon - we weren't sure what we were eating but we had a great time! And of course the spanokapita his Mom made that he used to bring into the office to share!! Rest in peace by friend. Sincerely Susan Shannon (Walach)

So sorry to hear this sad news. Andy took me under his wing and and introduced me to selling radio for cfny back in 1988. Plus he introduced me to Greek food and I had my first souvlaki on the Danforth. He said "give him some extra tzatziki sauce" and with a BIG soft smile he said "you are going to love it". I did, but my breath didn't! Andy had such a warm friendly personality no doubt his soul will live on in many of our memories. He was good guy.

Hard to believe I won't be getting any more phone calls from Andy, just to say hi, ask how I'm doing and give me a little laugh. A true life long gentle friendship and will cherish his memory.

Andy, What a light you have been in our lives. Always there when we needed you, and a true friend to everyone whose lives you touched. We owe a lot to you for your kindness, endless ability to pull things together, and positive view of life, your smile and laugh were infectious . So many happy memories of times we shared with you and our mutual circle of friends, all because of you.
This may be a dark day, and you will be very sadly missed, but your light will stay in our hearts forever.

We love you.
