Anne GAUTHIER Obituary

GAUTHIER, Anne (nee EYDT) 1927 - 2017 Peacefully, in her 91st year, we announce the passing of our mother Anne Gauthier (Annie Elizabeth Eydt) on September 15, 2017 in Hamilton, Ontario. Daughter of James Adam Eydt and Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Ferridge. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Gerald Pierre (Jerry) Gauthier (2005) and proud mother of Jeffrey (Mary), Judy (Ken Godfrey), Peter (Carol), Anne Marie (Robert Salumay), Jim (Joan) and Bruce. Proud grandmother of Rebecca, Andrew, Nicholas (Leah), Michelle, Jaclyn, Lauren, Jamie, Chris (Courtney) and Michael and great-grandmother of Jordyn Doiron and Hadley Gauthier. She will be missed by her many cousins, nieces and nephews. For many years, she sang with the Hamilton Sackville Hill Seniors and was in Our Lady of Lourdes Choir. Her activities included the C.Y.O. Drama Festivals where she directed several youth plays and won two "Best Director" awards, as well as participating in little theatre in Hamilton. She taught a "Dramatic Arts" course at Sts. Peter and Paul Elementary School. She served as the First Secretary at St. Thomas Moore High School, in Hamilton. In her retirement, she acted as the Education Director for the Mountain Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society for many years. Anne loved her game shows. She was an avid watcher of "The Price is Right" and "Family Feud." She was a five-time winner on "Definition." She had played against her son, Jim, in the playoffs and won. She later partnered with her son, Peter on "Definition," got to the fourth game, then lost the fifth. A highlight of her life was winning an "Academy Awards Contest" in the local Hamilton Newspaper, where she won a trip to Las Vegas for three nights and Los Angeles for 3 nights. Anne also collected penguins, over 200 of them at one point, and she had an article about her extensive penguin collection published in a magazine called "Our Canada" in February 2008. Mom loved to dance and travel. She and Jerry spent many winters in Florida. She visited Las Vegas at least 4 times. Donations in her memory can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer Society. Many thanks to the staff at Mohawk Trails and Chedoke Falls at Regina Gardens for their care and support of Mom these last few years. Visitation will be at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Avenue, Hamilton, from 7 - 9 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2017 and from 10 a.m. - noon on Friday, September 22, 2017. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Church (Our Lady of Lourdes location, 416 Mohawk Road East, Hamilton) on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
