ANTHONY MEKDECI Obituary

DR. ANTHONY CASIMIR MEKDECI Passed away peacefully at 9:30 a.m. on June 26, 2016 at the age of 79. He was much loved by his wife, Johanna, his three children, Zerlene, John and Brian and his three grandchildren, Carmen, Tristan and Bo. He was of Portuguese descent, born on April 21, 1937 in Guyana. In 1955 he won an open scholarship to study medicine at the University College of the West Indies in Jamaica. He graduated in 1962 with an MBSS (London) degree. He then immigrated to Toronto and after acquiring his MD (Canada) degree, practised for 50 years as a Family Physician, retiring in December 2012. His hobbies included writing poetry and a novella entitled, "Sacred Stories", a love of film and opera and amateur rose hybridizing, from which the "Zerlene" and "John's" roses are his best creations. He was kind to family, patients and animals. He was slow to anger and generous in helpfulness. Visitation at the PAUL O'CONNOR FUNERAL HOME, 1939 Lawrence Ave. E. (between Pharmacy and Warden), on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Victoria Park, south of Ellesmere). Interment at Christ the King Cemetery.
