When I went to St. Stephen´s, everyone wanted to be in Mr. Sarlo´s class. I am now a teacher teaching kids the same age he taught. On my best days, I see some of him in me. Your memory lives on in so many ways.

I was recently telling a story about how Mr. Sarlo gave me one of my favorite nicknames ever. I think about it at least once a year. I´m deeply saddened to learn of his passing. He was a great teacher, very kind and supportive. Although I graduated from St. Stephen´s 20 years ago I still have many fond memories, most thanks to him.

To Paula and family:
We are so saddened to hear of Tony's sudden death and we want you to know that we are thinking about you now and in the days to come. I always remember you and Tony at the many wonderful teachers' parties in Etobicoke. Always such a popular, fun-loving friendly couple having so much fun. These and many memories I'm sure you will carry with you forever. Our prayers are with you. May he rest in peace and glory in paradise. Many hugs to all of you, Rosalie Parente and family. .

Mr. Sarlo is the teacher I think about emulating in terms of his caring heart now that I am a teacher. He taught me during a time when racism was more common and I can honestly say before any move towards equity he had equitable practices in his classroom. He always judged a person by their character and promoted leadership. He helped me to believe in myself. I hope he knew how much he was loved.

You are, to this day, one of the best teachers I've ever had. I still think back fondly to when you let the kids in the class put pig tails in your hair and how you used to take at least an hour out of almost every day after lunch to let us do impromptu presentations on things that we loved, like dinosaurs and books.
I really wish I could have seen you one more time after I left St Stephens.
You will be missed.

An arm's-long description of your sterling qualities of character, Tony, would never even begin to illustrate the life-giving effect you had as an educator in St. Stephen's. Beyond that, your good humour, your open-mindedness, your unaffected goodness were an inspiration to me. I join your family in remembering your life as a celebration of integrity, and mourn with them in their overwhelming loss.
