ARNOLD BOWERS Obituary

BOWERS, Ph.D., PROFESSOR ARNOLD ARTHUR Passed away peacefully, on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at The Village of Wentworth Heights, Hamilton, in his 90th year. Predeceased by his sister, Leta Fetchel. Survived by his brother, Brian (Penny) Bowers; and brother-in-law, Joe Fetchel; uncle to Robin (Vince) Wolk and Michael (Vicky) Fetchel. Arnold was born in Powassan and raised in North Bay. He was a lifelong teacher with a passion for education, spending most of his career at the University of Toronto as a professor of English Literature. He lived most of his life in King City, Ontario, where he will be remembered by many friends. The family would like to thank the staff of The Village of Wentworth Heights, Emmas, for their compassionate care of Arnold for the past 6 years. I was only a student at FEUT and have never forgotten the influence of being in Arms class and the belief that some human beings are actually good. I remember one of his quotes, "Before you do what you are about to do, ask yourself: what if this activity you are doing were to be reported in every newspaper in the world on front page?" That acid test was Arn's way of looking at life and hit made a big difference.

My thoughts go out to Igor, Arn´s close friend for the loss of someone so admired by myself and especially my wife, Arn´s teaching colleague, Hildy, for his friendship over many years and his deep dedication to educating up and coming teachers.

Brian and Penny, Kevin and I were so sorry to learn that Arn had died. He was a wonderful man. We will remember him and his fabulous Christmas parties always. I'm going to plant a colourful tree in his memory!
