Arthur Hughes Obituary

HUGHES, Arthur Owen, M.A. - May 25, 1925 - March 12, 2010 We are sad to announce the passing of Arthur (Art/Arturo) Hughes at St. Michael's Hospital. A graduate of the University of Toronto, Art was a devoted Teacher, Author, Editor and Retired Coordinator of English for the Scarborough Board of Education. Arthur will be missed and remembered lovingly by his children Ian, Cathy, Darja and Maija and their families including 7 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren and his sister Alice. Arthur was predeceased by his brothers Bob, Ron and Dick. Also celebrating his life are his many friends in Brooke Valley (Perth, ON) and in Playa Del Carmen (Mexico), where he made his homes. At the family's request, there will be a private service.

The Gurney family wishes to extend their condolences to the family of Mr. Art Hughes. We were saddened to hear of his passing and have many fond memories of our former neighbour and friend from Hapley Drive. We enjoyed many years of friendship as our children grew up and went to school together and shared lots of adventures around the neighbourhood and at the cottage. We will remember him with fondness.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Hughes. I was his secretary in the 1980s for a few years up to his retirement as Co-ordinator of English. I fondly recall him bringing me fresh rhubarb from his garden and his famous red pen. My thoughts go out to his family at this time.
