ENDLEMAN, Barbara Joan (nee Dyke) - Passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011 at The Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, Ontario after several years of suffering with Alzheimer's disease, COPD and arthritis. Joan, as she was always called, was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on March 4, 1926, the fifth daughter of Maurice Frederick Dyke and his wife Ethel Florence Dyke of Blind River, Ontario, where she grew up. She is survived by her loving husband Don of Burlington, her son Thomas, his wife Marian and grandson David of Sudbury, sister Marion Elgee (Harold) of Baie-D'Urfe, Quebec and sister Elizabeth Craig of Orchard Park, New York. She was predeceased by her parents and older sisters, Muriel Wiebe of Portland, Oregon and Katherine Zbytowski of Medford, Oregon. Joan and Don spent most of their lives in Sudbury, where they both were active in the community. Joan was a school teacher in the 40s and 50s. For many years, Joan was active with the Red Cross Corps, a group of volunteer ladies working for the Red Cross in Sudbury, helping with blood donations, Meals on Wheels, cancer patients, visiting seniors and helping handicapped children. Joan was an avid curler and golfer for many years. After retiring, Joan and Don moved to Southern Ontario and spent time in Florida, travelling as much as possible. Resting at Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home in Burlington where cremation will occur. A gathering of friends and relatives to celebrate her life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Hearthstone By The Lake, 100 Burloak Dr. in Burlington.
