BENEDICT MICHAEL "BEN" DE SILVA March 26, 1918 - September 14, 2016 Benedict passed away peacefully into the arms of our loving God. He was born in Sri Lanka, moved to Malaysia then to Canada. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Rita Pearl in 2008; and son Surendra, in 2009. Benedict was the last surviving sibling of his family. He will be sadly missed by his children: Nimal (Susan) de Silva, Marie de Silva, Elrene (Sid) Dwernychuk, Anne McEvoy, Althea (Brian) Walker and Cheryl (Ed) Lock; grandchildren: Christopher Walker, Kathryn (Zachery) Belak, Jessica (Shawn) Curran and Bryan (Lindsay) Dwernychuk; great- grandchildren: Theodore, Jag, Cai, Ava and Mya; as well as numerous relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff from St. Andrew's Centre, as well as Dr. Harkirat S. Sidhu of St. Andrew's Centre Clinic for their care and compassion, in Edmonton, Alberta. Cremation has already taken place. Reverend Edward Murphy will celebrate a Funeral Mass at Holy Cross Thornhill Funeral Home, Holy Cross Cemetery, 211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill, ON, at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 8361 Yonge Street, Thornhill.
