Benjamin HERBERMAN Obituary

HERBERMAN, Benjamin - August 21, 1920 - November 13, 2015 Ben died peacefully, with his family around him, at Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital. Ben is survived by his loving wife Shirley, his brother Harry and Susan, and by his children, Mark, John and Katina, and Lee and Barbara, and by his grandchildren Ariel, Brody, Cole, Nico and Rachel, and Matthew. He was 95. After leaving Moncton, NB where he served in the Canadian Air Force during the war, Ben entered what would be a outstanding 65-year career in the insurance industry, in which he earned the respect and admiration of his peers and clients alike. Among his many distinctions, Ben was a inductee into the Sun Life Hall of Fame, a lifetime Million Dollar Round Table member, and was frequently sought out as a speaker and advisor. Ben was, at various times in his life, an avid photographer and wood carver, and he also played a mean harmonica. At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West (3 lights west of Dufferin) for service on Monday, November 16, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. Interment following at Dawes Road Cemetery, Temple Sinai Section. Shiva will be held at 619 Avenue Road, Apt. 903 until Wednesday evening. The family is grateful to Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital for their outstanding care of our husband, father, and grandfather. And we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Maria Taiza, Ben's caregiver and constant companion for the last 4 years. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to Sunnybrook Foundation Veterans Comfort Fund, 416-480-4483.

Dear Shirley and family,

Heather and I were both saddened to learn recently of your Ben's passing. We send you and your family our deepest condolences for having lost such a wonderful member of your family.

My earliest memories of you two was standing in the shallow end of the pool at the first Breaker's Leaders' Conference with Ben quizzing me about the tax saving benefits of management companies for professionals. Ben was the quintessential professional financial services adviser. He served as a role model and mentor for many in the business. It was an honour and privilege to have known and worked with him over the years. Always the soft spoken gentleman, there are few of his ilk and talent in the financial services business.

Thank you, Ben, for your many contributions over the years. God Bless.

A true gentleman. Ben was such a wonderfully articulate communicator, and represented his company, and industry, in the finest possible way.
He was an inspiration to me, and to the many, many others who knew and rspected him.

As a member of the golf professional staff at the Board of Trade Country Club I knew Ben and Shirley for 40 years and now have the pleasure of knowing their son Lee. Ben was always a gentlemen, a pleasure to speak to and deal with. Condolences to the Herberman family. He will be missed.
