What I will miss most is Ate Bernadette`s smile and hugs everytime we would bump into each other. A very loving big `sister` and one of the few close friends who called me `Baby`. I grew up knowing her as a youth leader at our NDC community in Manila in the 70`s. As a young girl then, i used to follow her around doing the Block Rosary in the neighbourhood. In Canada, I was not surprised to see her name as one of best community leaders here in Toronto. Thank you, Ate Bernadette for the memories. Stay close to our Lord and you are so blessed to follow Him around in heaven!

"There is a time for departure even when there's no certain place to go." When the time comes, all have to depart on their own, leaving everything and everyone behind. The person who passes away has their own journey to make with the angels by their side but those who are left behind find it difficult to move on.

No words cannot substitute for the loss of ate Baby, but they can provide comfort and reduce at least a little bit of pain.

It is hard to believe, and even harder to accept that she's gone. She was like a sister to us. We nourished each other as we grew up. We love her more than she will ever know. She will always have a special place in our lives.

But they say that the one who is loved the most by the Lord, is the one who attains eternity. Ate Baby will remain in our memories forever.

We pray to God to give you all the courage to overcome this grief especially Nanay. May God Bless and keep you all.

Love,
Kirk & Irene Nicholson

To Zaragoza family:

Though this message is a little bit late, I found this site by browsing her name. I was there at the wake.

I've known Bern from the Philippine Consulate General-Toronto. We worked together as volunteers every Philippine Independece Day Flag Raising Ceremony. She will be surely missed.

To the Family of Bern, we both suffer the loss. My son Zane Maranan passed away last November 13, 2010 from Burkitt's Lymphoma. Very rare and aggresive cancer that occurs to children between 5-25 years old. My son was 19 years old.

Life is so fragile. We have to count our blessings.

There's no excemption and everybody will go it's GOD's WILL.

My sincere condolences to the family.

My heartfelt condolences to the Zaragoza family.

I didn't meet Bern personally even she used to drop by at AP to bring us her delicious goodies, but I felt I've known her for a long time. I could say she was the most loving and caring person I've known esp. to her family and even with people she never met.

She had touched me and gave support during the CIBC Run For The Cure.

Bern, you will be remembered always.

May she you rest in peace and let perpetual light shine upon her.

As High School batchmate and classmate, as chairman of our HS Alumni Association, we have offered Bernadette prayers for the repose of her soul.

Surely we will miss her, as Bernadette is one of the moving spirit in having our alumni group active. Bern, together with the rest of our Toronto, Canada group, is very instrumental in hosting our first reunion/get-together in Canada, and that started our reunions.

Our group will have a Holy Mass celebrated for her 40th Death Anniversary.

We will surely miss her.

I was shocked and saddened by the news, first, of Bern having the big C, and later, of her death.

She was a great consolation when my own son, Jan, died eight years ago. She was always there for me and my family, both when I was still serving as Consul in Toronto from 1997-2000, and even after, during my frequent visits, first, to see my son, and even later, when I would go to Toronto to commemorate Jan's death anniversaries. I always enjoyed Bern's company because she was always giving of herself - her laughter is most especially remembered. I also felt special when I told her to give me a blow-by-blow account of her trip to Cuba with relatives, and she obliged.

I will always remember you, Bern. And I thank our good friend, Cecile Mojice, for having kept me updated about your condition throughout. A more loyal friend, I don't know if you will find.

Bern, you would now be with my son, Jan, so I know that you are both in a better place. May your soul rest in peace.

To Bern's family, please accept my deepest sympathies. Mommy, I know how difficult it is to lose a daughter, but God had plans for them we might never understand. Keep strong because there are other members of the family who need you.

- Sincerely, Olive Palala.

It hurt us very much to learn of the passing of our dear friend Bernadette Zaragoza.
Bernadette had been my co-worker and friend in the Philippines for many years when we worked at AG&P.
The hurt and sadness become bearable only because of our knowledge that she is now in the loving embrace of our Lord, in a place where there is no pain and no sadness. There is only joy and peace and happiness with our Lord.

My deepest condolences to the Zaragoza family. Bern is taking a rest as described in Psalm 23...The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters... and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
