Beverley EYERS Obituary

EYERS, Beverley Joan Lightfoot March 23, 1935 – December 18, 2017 In memory of Bev Eyers, a one-of-a-kind woman. She was perhaps ahead of her time and certainly of it. A trailblazing spirit, she took advantage of life's opportunities - both created and given - and despite all the odds. Bev was headstrong, restless, rebellious, fiercely independent, passionate, vibrant, smart as a whip, and even (!) a self-proclaimed "b**ch." Bev was a lover of all art forms, meticulous with math, an adventurous traveller and a follower of current trends. After retiring from the music industry, Bev enjoyed volunteering at the Gryphon Theatre and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie. Her greatest accomplishment was as a selfless and loving grandmother. To the end of her days, she was extremely proud of her grandchildren and shared hopeful messages urging them to be happy, to be good people and to start their own families. Bev was the beloved mother of Steve (Kathy), Pegi (Robert), Jane (Jim), infant son (predeceased) and "second mom" to Mike (Rachel). Adored grandmother of Adam, Jessie, Kacy, Chelsea and Jacki. Sister to Gordon (Kim) and dear friend of Bob Eyers (predeceased), Susan Cox and Pat Berner. Much loved aunt to her many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Bev's neighbours, Elaine and Gerry Greenwood and the staff at Whispering Pines Retirement Home and Royal Victoria Hospital who helped her so much over the past few months. True to form, Bev requested that there be no funeral service, but her family is planning a private Celebration of Life to be held early in 2018. As a cancer survivor herself, Bev requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society. Bev was the epitome of a life well lived and we will miss her dearly.

My husband and I were golfing buddies with Beverley's son Steve at Barrie Country Club. I can now see where he got his musical ability. Also he was just a good all around fella. He had a sweet gal named Cathy and her daughters. He definitely was like his mother. I was impressed to learn all about his wonderful Mom and all her accomplishments.

I stopped for lunch at a small café near my home in Amsterdam several days following a visit from Bev. The waiter asked if Bev would be joining me. I had only gone there once with Bev and was surprised to find that she had frequently lunched there by herself. When I told him she had gone home to Canada, he replied Please tell her that we will miss her and we love her. When I passed their message along to her, Bev was shocked that they would remember I was not surprised at all. Bev made friends because she was genuine and without artifice. She made me welcome in a big, strange city, sharing her family and friends unselfishly with me and my daughter. She was unique and I will miss her very much.
