Boyd Burdette "Bert" Voshell, 83, of Waterloo, and formerly from Arlington, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, following a lengthy illness with Parkinson's.
Boyd was born on Jan. 12, 1931, the son of Chancey and Virginia (Northrop) Voshell at Brickyard corner in Arlington. He attended school in Arlington. On April 16, 1951, he was united in marriage to Louise Lockwood at the Church of Christ in Arlington. He was employed at Rath Packing for 34 years, retiring in 1985, after they closed their doors.
He enjoyed playing pool and cards and spending time at their cabin with his family.
Survivors are his wife, Louise, of Waterloo; three daughters, Kathy (Tim) Harn, of Waverly, Sandy (Tim) Murray, of Elk Run Heights, and Janice (Garry) Burns, of Waterloo; two sons, Ron Voshell (friend, Darlene), of Waterloo, and Steve (Laurie) Voshell, of Hampton, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Voshell, of Waterloo, Leon Voshell, of Cedar Falls, and Lester Voshell, of Pratt, Kan.; and sister, Lorna Peterman, of Waldorf. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Delbert, Duane, Lyle, Larry and Darrel; two sisters, Maxine Voshell and Violet Nielsen.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Chapel, Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly with Pastor Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories cemetery in Waterloo. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Good Shepherd Chapel.
