Bradley Jay "Cool" Tonkin

Bradley Tonkin Obituary

TONKIN, Bradley Jay 'Cool' - After a courageous fight against the horrible disease called cancer, my husband, our son and our brother succumbed on February 4, 2011. Brad was the most loved guy in the world. His sense of humour, all the while fighting this disease amazed all his family, his friends, his nurses and his doctors. He simply found humour in everything. If you can't laugh, you can't live. He leaves behind his adoring wife, Suzie who was with him every step of the way right till the end. His mother and father Marilyn and Dan Armstrong who walked beside him through every treatment and were thrilled to do so, his father Bruce Tonkin, his wife Sandy who live so far away making if difficult to be with him as much as they would have liked. His brother Jeff (Leah) who loved him more than words can say and fights his own battle with cancer, but he will win. His sister, Shannon (Jody) who was Brad's favourite little sister and of whom he was so protective. His lovely nieces, Taryn and Brooke who always wanted to help. No one had more friends and no one was a friend to so many. They all rallied around and did so many wonderful things for him, it did your heart proud. The family can not thank enough Credit Valley Hospital and the wonderful caring staff that treated Brad, from the beginning of his journey right through to the end. Special mention to the nurses in Palliative Care who treated Brad like family with love and dignity. Also major thanks to Audrey, Andrea and Sandra, Dr. Higgins, Dr. Radwan and Dr. Besik. You all gave us more time than we thought we had. In lieu of flowers, donations to Credit Valley Hospital Cancer Wing is what Brad definitely wanted. They will always remember him as will we. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the Glen Oaks Reception Centre, 3164 9th Line, (Dundas), 905-257-8822, at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow.

When my daughter Susie first brought Brad to visit us we were so happy she had finally found someone who could be her life companion. We liked him immediately and were so pleased when they announced they were to marry. We enjoyed many good times together, he was so much fun and always smiling. Suzie loved him so much and so did we. There will be a permanent hole in all our lives that cannot be filled. His courage and willingness to fight to the end will never be forgotten. Thankfully he is now free from pain and in a better place. My heart goes out to Suzie and to Mare and Dan and Shannon and Jeff for their loss. We miss you Brad.

The whole world is crying. I cannot imagine this world without Brad but know that Heaven is in for one hell of a good time. Brad was the brightest light I ever had the joy to know and my life was truly enriched by his being here. He was very very special to all who knew him and his memory will remain ingrained in my heart and soul forever.

The memories that Brad created and the endless laughter will never go away and that gives me comfort. May God bless his wonderful family and his special soul forever.
