BRIAN WAYNE CURRIE

CURRIE, BRIAN WAYNE Brian Wayne Currie passed away peacefully, at his home in Toronto, on May 22, 2023. He was 72 years old and is survived by his three children, Espe, Jacob and Vincent. Brian was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia, on November 18, 1950, and was a passionate lifelong music fan and proficient self-taught blues guitarist. He began building his journalism career in Toronto in his 30s. Brian loved his work, and over a more than 30-year career at the CBC, worked on Morningside, The National, Newsworld and News Network, but was proudest to have worked on As It Happens. Brian retired in 2020, and his colleagues remember him as a gruff but kind and nurturing teacher, who taught a generation of TV news writers the value of clean and concise copy. He was also a loving critic and mentor to his daughter in her journalism career and said the greatest accomplishment of his life was that all three of his children had surpassed him "in every way."
