Hello to the family of Bruce Boughton,
For no particular reason I Googled Bruce this morning and came across this obituary.
If this is the Bruce who attended Wedgewood Public School in Etobicoke in the 1950's, then he is the man I was seeking. It certainly looks like him, even after 64 odd years.
I came from England in 1956 and settled on Mervyn Ave.
At a total loss, and dressed like an English schoolboy of the era, I attended grade one on opening day and found myself in a lineup.
The boy in front of me turned around, looked me up and down, and asked if I needed a friend. And thus he became my first Canadian friend and close pal for the duration of grade 7 when I moved away.
I have never forgotten the feeling of having a "friend" that fist day at school. It was he who taught me to play road hockey and explained to me what was meant by "Here comes Shack" which all the kids would be shouting at recess.
Rest in peace Bruce, my first true friend.
