Bruce FINLAYSON Obituary

FINLAYSON, Bruce - October 31, 1946 - October 12, 2012 How could you not love Bruce! Articulate, sensitive, caring and loving. All of those characteristics describe him, but, the overwhelming characteristics are courage and unselfishness . Unselfish in the sense, that no matter what the trials and tribulations, his concern was not for himself but for his family and friends. Courage to face whatever was his lot in life, concerned again not for himself, but to alleviate the fear and concern of those close to him. He loved life, oh how he loved life in all its manifestations! His sense of humour and quick wit were ever present. Connections were made with a smile and a hug, ensuring we all knew we were special. Today is a sad day for all of us. We have lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor and friend. But, most of all, we have lost a teacher. He taught us how to love, to live, to face adversity, to be successful and also to fail, to compete, to win and understand loss. He loved to teach. Hundreds of individuals have been touched by him and remember his compassion and understanding and yes, even discipline. They will say, "thank you Bruce, for being Bruce and touching our lives in such a wonderful, sensitive and meaningful way"! Please join Carol and the family to share stories and celebrate Bruce's life on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the North Simcoe Sports & Recreation Centre, 527 Len Self Boulevard, Midland from 12 - 3 p.m. A formal tribute will take place at 1:30 p.m. If desired, donations can be made to the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre www.gbcancersupportcentre.ca or the Midland OSPCA. www.midland.ontarioapca.ca Arrangements entrusted to the LeClair Cremation Centre www.leclaircremationcentre.com

Carol, My deepest sympathy to you, your family and friends. I attended public school with Bruce at Maurice Cody and we played badminton together at Manor Road. We lost touch with each other but reconnected a couple of years ago. Bruce was always a positive and friendly person to be around. He will be sadly missed by many.

Dear Carol...we are saddened by your loss of Bruce. We met him on our initial visit to Midland Duplicate. He knew we were new to the group and he came and introduced himself and made us feel so welcome. Over the years we enjoyed the pleasure of his company and always found him to be upbeat and happy. Many will miss his pleasant presence but no one as much as you and your family. We are in Arizona at this time but will hug you when we meet....Bruce woud like that.
God bless you and yours....roseanne and bill myers

A true gentleman and sportsman.
Although I didnt know Bruce well we always chatted at bowling tournaments and enjoyed playing against one another.
A warm caring human being who will be missed by all of us.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the family.
With love and white light

Bruce Finlayson, the essence of teaching and coaching. He had the gift that few have, to be able to teach and coach at the same time, as well as be adored by his players. We have lost a good one! Rest in peace Bruce!
