Carmela Jakovcic-Neander Obituary
Passed away at home at the age of 54 on Monday, September 29, 2014, surrounded by her family, after enduring years of an illness she faced with such uncomplaining courage and joy so as to ennoble the many who stood by her in her hour of need. Beloved wife of John Neander for 22 years. Loving mother of Joanna, Francine and Michael. Cherished daughter of Frances and the late Slavko Jakovcic. Much loved sister of Anita Jakovcic (John Bosyj) and Barbara Sommerville (Brad). Friends may call at Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke (between Kipling and Islington Aves.), on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 480 Rathburn Rd., Toronto, at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 3rd. Interment Assumption Cemetery. Carmela worked at the Credit Valley Hospital, gave birth to her children and had her cancer treated compassionately there, so that gifts in her memory may be made to the benefit of the Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre by payment to the Trillium Health Partners Foundation. Carmela was my doctor for many years, from the time when Chris Szymcyzk left the practice. Carmela was, of course, a doctor of outstanding quality--knowledgable, conscientious, caring, approachable and always with an ear that was willing to listen... But much more than that, she was so obviously such "a good soul"; a thoroughly decent human being. The loss to her family will be incalculable. I only hope that there is some small comfort to be felt in knowing that your sense of loss is shared by so very many others who recognized her "specialness". She, and all of you, are in my prayers and in my thoughts....

Mr. Neander and dear Joanna & Francine I am so sorry for your loss.
My dearest Michael... How hard it must be for you at this time. I knew your mother to be a kind, gentle, soft-spoken lady who had a special way about her. As your teacher, I always found her to be especially supportive and always interested in how she could help you to progress. She knew you so well and as a current song goes: she 'loved all your perfect imperfections'. Michael, take her strength and compassion and make her proud because she believed,as do I, that you have the potential to achieve whatever you put your mind to.

Dr. Jakovcic was our family doctor for years and a fellow BCI alum. All doctors should aspire to be as thorough and campassionate as she. I continue to stay healthy because she advocated for my continued enrollment in the St. Mike's breast health program. I will never forget her. She is a never ending positive influence in my life. My deepest condolances to her husband and children. She lives on in all the lives she touched!

Dr. Jakovcic was the most wonderful doctor, to myself and my three kids. My kids actually looked forward to their doctor appointments. We are so sad to hear of your passing, and our sympathies go out to your family. You are missed.
