CARROLL GOODWIN Obituary

GOODWIN, CARROLL December 15, 1940 - March 24, 2022 Carroll Goodwin was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, artist and friend. She left our world peacefully on March 24, 2022, at the age of 81. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will be honoured as her loved ones strive to live each day to the fullest. She was born to Jack and Margaret Scully on December 15, 1940. After graduating high school, Carroll pursued her passion for teaching, beginning what would become a thirty-five-year journey where she touched many students' lives, primarily at St. Gabriel's Elementary School in Burlington. Her passion for education was on full display as she continued to teach while also completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at McMaster University in 1981 and a Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization in Visual Arts at York University in 1989. Beyond her deep devotion to family and education, Carroll was a talented painter and poet, a dancer with the Burlington Footnotes and even added the drums to her list of hobbies later in life. A voracious reader, there were few good books she left uncracked or crosswords unsolved…and she always had the final word in family games of charades. Carroll is survived by her husband of 57 years Bill, and she was immensely proud of her three children Michael, Brad (Marea) and Jenn (Neville) and five grandchildren Joshua, Olivia, Peter, Sam and Summer. She is also survived by her four siblings: Michael, Sheila, Linda and Peter. The family is incredibly grateful for the attention and care provided to Carroll by the exceptional staff and personal support workers at the Williamsburg Retirement Residence. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Sunday, March 27, 2022, from 3-5 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 28th, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Burlington Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please write a poem for someone you love, dance your dance without fear, or find a drum and bang it as loud as you can. www.smithsfh.com
