Charles and I studied piano at RCM with Elizabeth Clegg at the same time. We seemed to be her "prized" students! (I believe she incited us to compete with each other!) A number of Elizabeth's students became professional musicians, but she always seemed to give Charles and I the limelight!
Of course, I came to know a number of other Estonian students of Elizabeth. Wasn't she your organist at the time? I especially remember a blonde brother and sister, Hans and Helga(?). Charles' untimely death has been a personal blow to me, affirming our brotherhood through the love of music. The warm and thoughtful nature of Charles' music will echo through an eternity! I stayed in touch with Elizabeth until her death, and she enjoyed several visits to our farm, out of Toronto. What a surprise, as our pet racoon jumped unexpectedly to the top of her head!!! While I expected her to be frightened, she laughed, and took the racoon in her arms! She loved nature, and one night we were "blown away" by the beauty of a sunset over the Trent River!
It is with joy that I rememberf Charles, the many student recitals we shared, and the sincerity of Charles' music. He was a wonderful person. May God remain with you.

Charles and I studied piano with Elizabeth Clegg at the same time. We were probably her two most dedicated students, who both became professional musicians. So sad to hear this news.

Charles was more than just a good friend. A good brother with good spirit. As Bible says in Proverbs 10-7: "The memory of the just is blessed..."

I remember asking Charles how to make a stick for a steel pan that we acquired at Fleming.
I visited him at Bathurst S.S. one day and after a brief minute of manipulating a piece of dowel and a length of rubber from an old inner tube I realized I just been taught by a master. Nice man, great teacher, our condolences to his family
