I just learned of Cindy's passing, and am so saddened by the news. She was much more than just a lawyer to my elderly mother - she and Ray handled my mother's legal and financial affairs with integrity, deep caring and compassion. She was always there when needed, and even called my mother regularly, just to see how things were going. She was a wonderful lawyer, and a very special human being - she supported my mother through some very difficult times, and we can never thank her enough.

I remember well you swimming Lake Ontario. Your parents bought my grandparents home on Hill Crescent on Scarboro, it overlooked the bluffs, often wonder if that inspired you to swim the lake.
Gone but never forgotten.

My mother Susi knew Cindy's mother from Scarborough General Hospital. Cindy was the lawyer for both my mother and father's wills. She also was our lawyer when we moved from Scarborough to Aurora. She was a very understanding and approachable lawyer. I am deeply saddened.

Dear Vicky and family,
I worked at SGH (Admin) during the early 1980's while Cindy was accomplishing so much in her life. She has been a mentor and hero to many people.
You are in my thoughts and prayers at this time.

What a gem this special lady was. She was our lawyer both when we bought our house, and when we updated our Wills, and was so approachable, kind, sweet, and reassuring. The World is poorer for having lost her. Rest in peace, Cindy.

To Cindy's family my deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers at this time.... as a close high school friend we spent many great times together, car rides to Senator O'Connor in that car she was given after the Lake Ontario crossing, with the BIG decal on the side"Get in the swim with Cindy Nicholas" and even after moving to Alberta in '79 we always exchanged Christmas cards to just stay in touch.... A little piece of my heart died today when I heard the news, you're upstairs now watching over us, God Bless, and you'll be deeply missed by all your many friends and family. I'll see you when I reach the "Big Swimming Pool in the Sky" someday kiddo. Your Friend, Dan.

Cindy's mother (Auntie Vicky) and our mother worked together at Scarborough General Hospital. I would have met Cindy as a toddler - early in her swimming career I would sit on her feet as she trained by doing sit-ups. Our paths continued to cross over the last 40 years. Cindy's smile, warmth and laughter was always vibrant and genuine. Cindy will be missed - sending all our love to the entire family!

I am so sorry to read of Cindy's passing. I was a team mate of Cindy's with the Scarborough Swim Club. I remember going to Cindy's cottage, I think we were 10 or 11. While the rest of the girls played around in the lake Cindy was swimming behind the boat that her father was driving! She was so dedicated at such a young age!!! Too Young, Too Soon!! RIP Cindy!

So sorry to have heard the news about Cindy's passing. I actually got to meet her on Thursday, June 26, 1980, when she was invited by her cousin and our teacher, Gail Wheeler, to give a talk to our Grade 4 class at St. Cyprian School about her experiences as a long-distance swimmer and what it was like to swim across Lake Ontario and the English Channel. As kids of nine or ten years old back then, I think we were all just mesmerized by the stories she had to tell. Afterwards she signed autographs for anyone who wanted them, and for yours truly, hers was the first I ever received, so that's a special memory. Thank you for coming to our class all those years ago and sharing your experiences with us, Cindy. You will be missed.

So sorry to hear about Cindy, a former classmate at Senator O'Connor, I recall our school never used to win any competitions against other high schools and then suddenly our school was cleaning up at the swimming events which gave many of us a sense of pride. It was great to see her have such a successful athletic career followed by a law and politics career. So sorry to hear of her passing young age. Prayers and condolences to her loved ones.

Condolences from the Vinczer family.

Deepest condolences to the family of Cindy Nicholas. Her father taught me at Precious Blood school and often spoke fondly about Cindy's difficult English Channel swim, battling the chilling water and many smack of jelly fish. I am sad to hear Cindy has passed at such a young age.

Cindy was one of my heros. She inspired my desire to swim, and keep on swimming. Rest in peace.
