Clarke Abel Obituary

Clarke William George ABEL

Clarke died peacefully at the Guelph General Hospital on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 in his 85th year. He was the beloved husband for 62 years of Josie; loving father of Susan (Jerry) Auger, Stephen (Sharon) Abel, Peter (Samantha) Abel, and Mary Abel (Steve Motta). Grandfather of Michelle (Robert), Laura (Jon), Jason (Leslie), Lindsay (Mike), Duncan (Michelle), Cameron, Stuart, Virginia, Jamie and Frances. Great-Grandfather of Luca. Sibling of the late Margaret Smith and Charlie Abel. Parents Charles and Anne (Cristo).

Clarke grew up in Mimico, moved to Mississauga to raise his family and recently retired to Guelph.

He studied Electronics at Ryerson, then worked tirelessly as co-owner of the family business, Chas Abel Photo Services, which developed film across Canada for almost 100 years.

He spent his summers at the cottage at Cedar Spring Community Club where he would spend his time fixing the plumbing and "golfing". When he was not playing bridge, he would spend many hours in his woodworking shop constructing furniture, making trays and more recently, toys for his great-grandchild. Most of all Clarke will be remembered by his family and friends for his generosity, corny jokes and love of his family.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 16th from 2 to 3 p.m. at Turner & Porter, Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, N. of QEW), followed by a service in the Chapel at 3 p.m.  In Clarke's memory, donations to the Salvation Army or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

Thinking of you all at this very sad time. Mr Abel put up with all of us 'hanging out' in the basement and never failed to crack a joke or two. They are happy memories - with love Natalie (Price)

From time to time someone at CSCC on the first tee raises with fondness Clarke's jokes on the occasion of Men's Sunday morning Sweeps. Sally and I are out west with the grandkids but hope you all are able to reflect on your many warm memories of Clarke and his wonderful personality.Kindest regards The Hartwells

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Abel's death, and I know Mom was upset to learn about it too. She would be with all of you if she could on Saturday, as would I. I have many fond memories of peeking in on dinner and bridge parties, and of swimming and hanging out at your home in Clarkson. I too remember the puns! Wishing all of you comfort.

Dear Jose and family:
Please accept our fondest regards and deepest sympathy to you all for your loss. Those of us who shared time with your family at Cedar Springs remember Clarke very well. He and I were paired together quite often in the Cedar Springs couples golf events and it was always fun. Our tray is still being used on a regular basis and we will remember Clarke fondly whenever we use it in the future.
Sincerely,
Maureen Crane (and David)

Our sympathy and warmest wishes of support go out to Clarke's family. We will remember Clarke most for his joyous, playful sense of humour. His jokes and amazing puns made us groan, and then laugh, and always feel better. He was a delight to know.
A donation in his name has been made to Unicef, to help children in trouble around the world.
