Corry Steenkist Obituary

CORRY STEENKIST 80 years young. Suddenly, Corry with family at her side on Thursday, June 18th, 2009, joining daughter Gerda who passed away a year ago. Corry also leaves behind her loving husband Alex of 69 years; caring sons Lex Jr., Tim (Becky), daughters Sue (Gary), Mary (Ron), son-in-law Edward; adoring grandchildren Amanda, Bryan, Chris, Stage and Skylar; loving sisters Gerda, Nel, Miep, respective spouses and their children; brother-in-law Henry (Betty), Simon (Lenie); sister-in-law Riekie DeKlerk and all extended family here and in Holland. Corry worked as the Director of Acquatics at the Hamilton YWCA for 28 years, and was a volunteer with the Make a Wish Foundation (International), Give Kids the World and Help a Child Smile. She touched many people's lives charitably, as a friend, a teacher and mentor to many. She will be sadly missed. We would like to thank McMaster's ICU team. With special thanks to her nurses Anita, Moira, Jody, Sarah and social worker Maggi. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to Make a Wish Foundation or Give Kids the World Florida to help children battling illness. Corry and her family wish to invite you to attend a celebration of her life on Thursday, June 25th, 2009, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at The Royal Canadian Legion, 12 King Street East, Stoney Creek. "No crying"

My thoughts and prayers are with Alex and the entire Steenkist family at this time. Corry...you were truly a remarkable woman. Everything you and Alex have done with Make a Wish and HACS will not be forgotten...we need more people in this world like you...Thank you. You will always be remembered.
