Daniel Achen Obituary

DANIEL BRUCE ACHEN It is with profound sadness that his family announces the sudden passing of Daniel (Dan) Achen. Our dear Dan died suddenly while playing hockey on March 15, 2010 at the age of 51. Dan leaves behind his beloved son Riley, the joy of his life. Dan was so very proud of Ry, and Ry considered Dan not just to be a dad but also to be a close friend. He also leaves to mourn his mother Phyllis, his siblings Norm (Linda), Lynda (John), Boo (Gord) and Jane (Joe) and the love of his life Maggie Dee and her son Chazz. Nieces and nephews Linden (Colette), Kelsey (Mark), Ben (Liz), Leslie (Afie), Robin, Peter (Laurel) and Graham and great-nieces and nephews Linden, Audrey and Todd. And also Riley's mom Judy Donnelly. Dan was predeceased by his father Linden, his brother John and his nephew Donald. Dan grew up in Regina, SK, but set out for Hamilton in his early 20's. That is where he found his passion in the music industry. As someone said, 'He simply followed the music wherever it led him.' During his career he was a founding member of a number of bands and played lead guitar for Junkhouse in the 90's. Dan became a Record Producer with Catherine North Studio, later becoming its Owner, where he recorded and produced acts from across Canada and abroad. Music was his life. He loved his job. We should all be so lucky. Anyone who knew Dan knew that he did everything with passion: making music, playing hockey, parenting and living life. We love you Danno - you have left a huge hole in our hearts. Friends are invited to the DODSWORTH & BROWN FUNERAL HOME - ROBINSON CHAPEL (King St. E. and Wellington, 905-522-2496) on Monday, March 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church (260 Herkimer St., Hamilton). In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Musicounts, www.musicounts.ca or Hamilton Food Share, www.hamiltonfoodshare.org Online condolences may be made at www.dbrobinson.com

We remember Danny as a raring to go teenager driving a British motor cycle around Regina. Since then, he certainly came along way in fnding his true calling. Sympathy to all the Achen kin. He is sorely missed and fondly remembered.

I fondly remember sitting in Danny's basement in 1978 and listening to him pluck away, he had a dream of music and he met and surpassed even his own expectations. He was always a hockey and Rider fan. Sincerest sympathy to his family and friends.
