DANIEL BLACHFORD Obituary

BLACHFORD, DANIEL FRANK May 18, 1918 - April 4, 2023 Passed peacefully, in his 105th year. Dear husband to Marion for 67 years. Loving father to Brian (Lana), Linda and Carol; cherished Grandad to Leslie, Michael (Chole) and Christopher (Ali). He was "Uncle Dan" to relatives of many generations during regular visits to our family cottage on Mazengah Island well into his nineties. Predeceased by Jane (sister). After graduating UTS (Class of 1937) and University of Toronto (Bachelor of Music, 1950), he became a dedicated teacher with the North York and Etobicoke Boards of Education. His lifelong love of music saw membership with the Royal Regiment of Canada Band and the Encore Symphonic Concert Band. He was a WWII Veteran. The family would like to thank the staff of Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, LGSW, who provided excellent and compassionate care for almost three years. In accordance with Dan's wishes, there will be a private family service. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Thursday, May 11, 2023, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge St., North York. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Charity of Your Choice. Memories and condolences may be made online at: www.kanejerrettnorthyork.ca

Dear Carol and Chris, Sending my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your Dad/Grandad. I have loved seeing his photos on FB and hearing the anecdotes about him. I feel like I knew him. I didn't realize he was a music teacher and played with the Royal Regiment. I played with the 7th Toronto Artillery for years when I was a music student in Education at U of T. Now I know where Chris got his talent. Or perhaps Carol, I didn't know that you also played music? I hope the memories of a his full and rewarding life bring you comfort.

Thinking of all of you duringnthis difficult time. I remember Dan came to Ledbury when he turned 100 and our KIndergarten classes got to meet him and had so many questions for him. It was such a great day and honor to have him there. I will always cherish that memory.

Mr. Blatchford was a mentor to my mother, Eleanor Russell, with her music. We always had a picture of him on our piano at home. I send my sympathy to his family.
