DANIEL COLUMB Obituary

DANIEL COLUMB It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our best friend, husband, father, grandfather and brother Daniel Columb. Danny will leave a void in the hearts of his family: his wife of 52 years Lena, his sons Danny (Carmel), Barry (Marie), his beloved grandchildren Daniel, Ryan, Matthew, Sarah-Rose, Aidan and Conor, his special nephew Barry, his sister Bridie (George), his brothers Pat (Alice), Kieran (Kathleen). "Pappa" died eight months after his diagnosis of inoperable colon cancer. All of his family was with him during his last days, and though his physical self weakened rapidly, his spirit, his mind, his wit, his compassion and his soul were with him until his last hour. Born in Granard County, Longford, Ireland, Danny immigrated to Canada in 1956. He worked on the building of the Toronto Subway System until he broke out on his own, co-founding Toronto Underground Construction. More than anything Danny loved his family and was an integral part of his children and grandchildren's lives. He would be often seen at hockey arenas, dance and art studios with his grandchildren. A proud Irishman, Danny loved and embraced Canada and all it had to offer. He was a founding member of the St. Vincents Hurling and Football Club in Toronto and a supporter of the Gaelic Athletic Association until his passing. He was also a passionate hockey and football fan cheering for any team other than the Leafs. His family would like to thank Dr. Peter Simkhovitch, Dr. Matilda Ing and all the staff at Mackenzie Health for their dedication and compassion. A special thank you to the Bell family and Teresa Passion who's support continues. Friends may call at the MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 10366 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill (4th traffic light north of Major Mackenzie Drive), on Monday, October 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass on Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of the World Church, 10411 Bayview Avenue at 12 noon. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. www.marshallfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Colon Cancer Canada or Mackenzie Health Centre.

To Lena,Barry, Danny and families.Our deepest condolences. We lost a great friend in Danny Columb, a man for whom I had the greatest respect for the way he carried himself in life. He taught me so much as a young man back in the day. We shall miss him dearly.

The Kenny family extend their deepest sympathies to Barry & Family and to all who have lost a very special person in their lives.

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

Danny was the biggest influence in getting our family involved with the Vincent's Gaelic Football and Hurling Club. He was also a loyal friend and a great Gael who will be sadly missed in the Irish community.

Tá muid buartha faoi a bhás mar ní fheicimíd a leithéad arís
Ar lámh dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam uasal 's go mbeidh na h-Aingeail sna Flaithís ag fanacht leis.
