So very sad to see that Dan has passed. My father grew up with Dan and I knew him as Uncle Dan. His smile and quick sense of humour were always welcome at family gatherings. Dad is now 95 and has fond memories of Dan growing up as part of the family. We hadn’t seen Uncle Dan in many years, having drifted apart, as families do, but he is still remembered and thought of fondly.

Whenever I was with him at family gatherings, I would try to outdo him in Latin quotes, references to the Anglican Prayer Book, and in the history or Europe. He had the answer in seconds, and I never won. He was that most valuable of human beings: very intelligent and well-read, and generous and playful. I always made sure I sat next to him. I was privileged to have known your father.
