DAVE QUINN Obituary

QUINN, DAVE It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Dave Quinn, who passed away May 15, 2022, in his 79th year, with his wife, Charmaine, by his side. Dave was one of the kindest, most gentle humans with a wonderful sense of humour. Born in Montreal, he had an amazing career starting in radio before moving on to political reporting in Ottawa. However, his love of sports changed his direction into the world of sportscasting with the Ottawa Rough Riders at CFRA, CKLW-the Big 8, CKWW, CBC, and his final stop at CFRB radio in Toronto for 25 years. Dave interviewed many sporting legends. He was the voice of the Windsor Spitfire Hockey team, OHL Game of the Week with Darryl Sittler and Bobby Orr, as well as doing colour commentary with US college football and Toronto Argonauts. Dave loved covering the Canadian Open through the years, and was a member of Upper Union Golf Club. His amazing golf buddies will have a memorial to celebrate his life at the course. Dave had many friends, he deeply loved his animals, had a passion for hockey and golf, and his life was truly fulfilled. He was predeceased by his son, David, and is survived by his daughters, Tara, Leanne, Sherri and Alison; granddaughters, Megan, Paige and Jamie. He will also be missed by Dudley and Lynne Leggett; nephew, Christian; great-niece, Alice; and mother-in-law, Pat. Sincere thanks to Sunnybrook Hospital ICU and the Schulich Heart Centre for their kindest and most dedicated care. Donations in Dave's memory may be made to the Canadian Chihuahua Rescue and Transport, a charity which was close to his heart.

I worked with Dave in Windsor at CKWW in the 70s and we we were roommates sharing a house on Lake St. Clair in Tecumseh during that time. We certainly had a lot of laughs together. I last saw Dave after I left CFRB and he had just become a sportscaster there in the early 90s. I will always remember him fondly.

I work with Dave at CKLW. He was a great play by play announcer with the Windsor Spitfires. I was a broadcaster there myself and when there was a game on I was in the studio running the commercial breaks. The station also had a softball team and we played ball with local businesses. Dave had great sense of humour. My condolence to Dave's family.

I met Dave at the Mandarin Golf & Country Club, now Upper Unionville GC, and played many rounds of golf with him over the years. I considered Dave a good friend who loved to tell stories, of which I am sure a number of sports figures would like to be forgotten. Dave loved his animals and I always found it amazing that he always had several cats and dogs, all with special needs, that he looked after in his condo along with Charmaine. Dave rest in peace.

I worked on air with Dave @ CKWW and shared the fun with the Spitfires doing the arena announcements. We lived together sharing a rental home in Tecumseh with too numerous laughs. We also had the vacation of a lifetime driving to Clearwater Florida. So many fun times. You were a good friend all those years Quinner. Peace be with you in your new adventure up there.

Rest In Peace, my old friend. You were my first radio mentor and you taught me lessons I carry with me to this day. It all started Day One while on placement from college with Kate Young at CKWW with you and Neil Thomas. Half a day of live training and then half a day of explaining the ropes to us over libations at the Windsor Press Club. A complete professional in front of a microphone and wickedly hilarious off-air, I never really told you what you and your guidance meant to be. I was blessed to be with you when you first met your lovely bride. Godspeed, Dave.

Dave, I always enjoyed our time together chatting about various animals, of course it was mostly about the gorillas. We were lucky to have you volunteer your time at the zoo. Charmaine, you´re in my thoughts and anytime you need a friend to lean on, I´m here for you.

I worked with Dave for several years in the 1970s with CKWW Radio. He was an amazing colleague: brilliant on the air yet hilarious off the air. I so enjoyed Dave´s company through the years. Rest In Peace, Dave.
