David MACKENZIE Obituary

MACKENZIE, David John April 17, 1959 – October 12, 2017 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David J. Mackenzie. He was a kind and loving son, brother, uncle and a dear friend to so many. David grew up in Ancaster, Ontario and at the age of 18 he moved to Toronto. He approached everything he did with enthusiasm and strove to give his very best, which is part of why he made many lifelong friends. He had a passion for theatre, classic movies and Divas, both on screen and off, as well as the great pop stars and was known for his kindness, charisma and colourful charm. David was predeceased by his father, Hugh John Mackenzie. He is survived by his loving mother Carolyn Mackenzie, sister Kathy Zurgilgen (Daniel), niece Emily of Invermere, BC and many extended family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Diabetes Canada in David's name. A Celebration of Life was held on October 26, 2017.

Your friendship will be missed. Your caring and compassion will be missed. Your smile, laughter and joie de vivre will be missed. I am already missing you!
I hope your mother and sister and extended family will take some comfort in knowing that you were loved by many, were larger than life, and continue to exist in the hearts of so many, many people. Sleep well sweet prince!

I was always so struck by the warmth in your smile. Thank you for extending your friendship towards me and for the honour of being a part of the scattering of Wilf's ashes. I was given a huge gift in life by being a part of that ceremony with Eric, remembering sitting in the canoe and the beautiful sunset. My deepest sympathies to your friends and family. May you be peaceful, may you be at ease. Catherine (Anne) Lamond (Vancouver, BC)

David and I became friends when I first started out as a stage manager and I helped him with Wilf's memorial service. We remained friends for over 25 years and even tho I have lived outside of Canada most of the past 15 years, we have always remained in contact and David never missed sending me a birthday card. He was a kind, gentle, thoughtful and loving man. I will miss him greatly. My condolences to his family. Sleep well David!

I am so grateful to have known David for the few short years, that I did. He had a wonderful way of making the dullest day bright. My deepest sympathies are with his family at this time.
