David McMaster Obituary

DAVID GREENE McMASTER February 12, 1930 - April 7, 2010 David died on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, surrounded by his family after a brief but difficult illness. A striking sports enthusiast affectionately nicknamed 'Ace' for his superior tennis skills, David will be dearly missed by his wife of 51 years Joy, devoted daughter Susan (husband Peter), surviving son Earle (wife Bernadette) and predeceased by his beloved son Ross (wife Heather). Ace will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren Malek, Farialle, Jack, Liam, Hope, Susan, Sean and Kyle. David was born in Montreal and grew up surrounded by sports and social events. He adored his mother Ruth and stepfather Earle Spafford, and his brothers Douglas (Dougie) and Richard (Dickie). Close to his heart were his nieces Jill, Elizabeth, Trish, Heather and nephew Scott. He attended Selwyn House School and then went on to Bishop's College in Lennoxville, Quebec. David married the lovely Joy Dibble in 1959 and immediately moved the family to Toronto where he continued his career in advertising and his second career as a hockey/football/ tennis dad to his three incredibly sports-minded kids. After he retired, David volunteered at various organizations including Goodwill. David will long be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour and his devotion to his wife and children. You are invited to join us to celebrate David's life at ST. CUTHBERT'S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 1399 Bayview Avenue, on Friday, April 16th from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., followed by a gathering at the Granite Club, 2350 Bayview Avenue, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. If desired and in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Ross McMaster Memorial Fund at the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation (go to www.ccfc.ca and search 'Ross McMaster').
