David Simmonds Obituary

DAVID CLAUDE SIMMONDS June 8, 1946 - September 13, 2011 David passed away suddenly at home on the evening of September 13, 2011 in the presence of his beloved wife of 44 years Sue and their son Peter. Loving husband of Suzanne Simmonds (Alton). Adored father of Paul, Anne Faulkner (Brad), Mark (Maureen), Elizabeth, Jonathan, Peter and Rebecca. Amazing grandfather to Mackenzie, Samantha, Markus and Jesse Alexander who will miss his warm hugs and kisses enormously. David was the oldest son of the late L. Claude Simmonds and Betty Simmonds (McNeill) with whom he spent time every day and who will miss him deeply. He was much loved by his 6 siblings, Ruth, Anne and Bruce Bennett, John, Bruce and Tamara, Paul, Lois and his special Aunt Ruth McNeill. David and his outgoing personality will be sadly absent from family gatherings and his host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins will remember him fondly. After graduating from York Mills Collegiate, David was a very proud early student of the Co-op Engineering program at University of Waterloo. A born salesman, the success he realized during the work term portions of the program made him focus on the incredible opportunities in business and he joined the family electronics business before completing his degree. Never regretting that decision, he achieved consistent success in business and was a significant contributor to the growth and success of A.C. Simmonds and Sons and its related businesses. Although in recent years, health challenges had reduced his level of business commitments, he remained the ultimate salesman and entrepreneur. David had a lifetime commitment of unwavering, faithful service in the Christian community. He served for many years on numerous Boards including Yonge St. Mission, World of Science, Stouffville Christian School, Ontario Pioneer Camp Committee and SU Sportz. At the time of his passing, he was the Chair of World Team. David was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist and Uxbridge Baptist Churches and had recently joined Goodwood Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Other than his family, David's greatest passion was 'the little church' at Glen Major, where following in the tradition established by his grandfather, A.C. Simmonds and father, L. Claude Simmonds, upon the disability of Claude, he assumed leadership of the summer evening services in 1999. His faithfulness in that role was much appreciated by the Glen Major community. David was extraordinarily generous, almost to a fault. He loved debating politics, always from the perspective of his conservative viewpoint and he loved living in the Uxbridge area of Ontario in the country which he loved and of which he was a proud citizen. He will be greatly missed. "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21. Friends and family will be received on Friday, September 16, 2011 from 3:00 -- 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 -- 9:00 p.m. at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main St. S., Uxbridge, ON, 905-852-3073. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Uxbridge Baptist Church, 231 Brock St. W., Uxbridge, ON, 905-852-3662. Interment at Claremont Union Cemetery. In David's memory, donations may be made to the Ontario Pioneer Camp Scholarship Fund or to SU Sportz. Online condolences may be made at www.lowandlow.ca

Dear Sue
I met David about 50 years ago when we both were on the Toronto BYPU exec. while I was at Ryerson. I drove him home since I don't think he was old enough to drive.
I was encouraged by him then, and have watched his continued passion in his service to His Lord.
May God's grace be greater than your grief and may you experience the peace of knowing that you have MANY friends praying for you and your family.

Dear Sue and Family,

We are all shocked by David's passing ... he was always so full of life.... but we are confident he is with his Heavenly Father (and earthly father and grandfather). His was certainly a "life well lived"!

May the God of Ps. 23 be your Comforter at this time. Our prayers are with you all.

Love,
Rev. Fred Tham (World Team Canada Board)
