DAVID WEATHERHEAD Obituary

DAVID BENNINGTON WEATHERHEAD 1928 - 2012 Passed away peacefully in Toronto at age 84 on March 25, 2012. David enjoyed a life well lived. He was a Father, Grandfather, Brother, Lawyer, Member of Parliament, Leafs and Blue Jays fan and a proud Canadian. Loving father of five children: Susan Menary (Scott); Carolyn Carney (Jeff), Boston; Christopher (Ana Canabarro), London, England; Jeffrey, Victoria, BC; and Stephen (Pilar). Proud grandfather of Katrina, Wilson, Charlie, Anna, John and Rory. David also leaves behind Ann Weatherhead, proud mother of his children; sister Barbara Weatherhead; and brothers Peter and Gerry . David is predeceased by his father, Thomas Mansell Weatherhead and his mother Evelyn Bennington Weatherhead. David grew up in the Bennington Heights area of Toronto, named after his mother. David was passionate about history, politics, law and people. After attending North Toronto Collegiate, David went on to the University of Toronto (1950) and then Osgoode Hall (1954) before joining his father's law firm, Weatherhead, Weatherhead LLP, where he practiced for 57 years. David thoroughly enjoyed helping his clients. David was President of Victoria Tennis Club (late 50s) and an early member of both Craigleith and Alpine Ski Clubs. President of the Toronto Liberal Party in the mid 60s, David was elected to the Trudeau Government as Member of Parliament for Scarborough West in 1968-72 and 1980-84, proudly serving this diverse riding. He became Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of State for Urban Affairs and later to the Minister of Health and Welfare. The family wishes to thank the exceptional staff at the Houses of Providence and Scarborough General Hospital (7th floor and ICU, Dr. Colwill and Dr. Clasky). A Celebration of David's Life will be held on Saturday, April 28th at the Visitation Centre in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 375 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Toronto (east gate entrance, north of St. Clair Ave., 416-485-5572). Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. with memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow .
