DAWN MILLER Obituary

DAWN ELIZABETH MILLER (nee ANTHONY) October 27, 1942 - May 19, 2014 Suddenly, unexpectedly and wholly unfairly, this beautiful woman departed this world leaving a legacy of caring and love. Predeceased by her loving husband John Charles Miller only three months ago. The best mother in the world to Anne (Mark Riopelle) and Martha (Jeff Adams) and loving, caring grandmother to Wilfred and Ada. Predeceased by her wonderful brother Graham Craig Gordon Anthony. Beloved daughter of the late Doris and Richard Anthony. Dawn was always giving. She gave to her students throughout her career as a high school teacher, retiring as Head of Special Education at Malvern Collegiate Institute. She gave to her daughters and was always there for them - above and beyond. She had dedicated the last 10 years to caring for loved ones in need - first her mother and then her dear husband. Dawn was finally embarking on a new chapter - one of enjoyment and freedom when her life was cut so short. She derived great joy from visits with her grandchildren and was looking forward to many outings, sleepovers and trips; they adored Gramma. Dawn lived for her family, but had many other passions. A natural artist, she loved painting - in classes and collectives with others and alone or with family in her home studio. Her spirit will live on in her paintings, treasured by many. Her flair for language was evident in her alliterative dispatches to darling daughters, son français impeccable and her clever wordplay (MI ALMA). Dawnie had a zest for life that was infectious and this new chapter of her life was shaping up to be one filled with laughter, family and friends, dancing in the kitchen, artistic pursuits and travel. Her death leaves a hole in the hearts of many. Friends and family may call at McDougall & Brown Funeral Home, 2900 Kingston Rd., on Sunday, May 25th from 2-5 p.m. A service will be in the Chapel on Monday, May 26th at 11 a.m., following a visitation at 10 a.m. Interment at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. If so inclined, donations may be made in Dawn's memory to Sleeping Children Around the World or The Kidney Foundation of Canada. Madre de nuestra alma, you left us way too soon.

Dear Anne and Martha,
I was deeply shocked to learn, on my return from Europe, that your mother had passed away. As you know, we were colleagues and friends at Malvern for many years, and during my last decade there, I got to know Dawn much better because we worked together in Special Ed. She was a fine person and I know that you and your families will miss her greatly. My sincere sympathy to both of you.

Dear Anne and Martha,
I heard only today of Dawn's death and am so shocked and sad for all of you. I had intended to arrange to have lunch with her next week and now that will never happen. She was much too young to leave us all.
Thinking of you and your little ones today.

Sincerely,

Dear Anne and Martha
I was stunned when I read of your mother's passing so soon after your father. I drove by the house the other day and was going to stop in to see your mother. The car was there but there were no lights on, so I kept going. Now I really regret that. I enjoyed the many hours I sat with your father and the times I helped your mother clean out the basement and ran her errands. Truly a fabulous woman.

Dear Anne & Martha, we were so shocked & saddened to hear about your mom. She was known as Auntie Dawn to Katherine & Kurtis for all the love and care she gave them when I lived so far away from my own mom. She will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Love Debra

Dear Ann and Martha,
I was so shocked to hear of your moms' passing and so soon after your dad. She was such a wonderful lady. I worked with your mom at Malvern as one of her Ed. Assts. before she retired. She was such a great teacher to all her students, very caring and motherly and she was so good to me at work and outside of work, we became friends. She has left us far too early. Please know that you and your families are in my thoughts and prayers.
