Derek SMITH Obituary

SMITH, Derek Bravely, peacefully and surrounded by love, Derek passed away on January 2, 2020, at the age of 69. Loving father to Katey (Jeff) and Graham (Katie), brother to Peter (Susan) and Roger (Darlene), uncle to many and proud "Grandpa Dee" to Molly, Matthew and Reggie. Donations can be made to the Pulmonary Rehab Program at Credit Valley Hospital: trilliumgiving.ca/dereksmith or call (905) 848-7575 A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, north of QEW), with reception to follow. I was saddened to hear about Derek's passing.
I found Derek to be wise in our business decisions and I turned to him often for advice.
A great father who loved his kids.
My condolences to the family.

I also played tennis with Derek (and his father before his untimely passing) at the Weston Tennis Club in the 1970's. He was a great guy and we enjoyed many good moments on the courts. Also saw him and his dad at Balm Beach where they vacationed a few times. Condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure of coaching baseball at Eringate in Etobicoke with Derek for many years, particularly in the 1990s. Derek was not only a great coach but a great influence on the players and everyone involved in the game. He was very positive and very knowledgeable. Derek had a smile for everyone and was a wonderful person to be around. His legacy is the positive influence he had on everyone with whom he came into contact. Rest in peace Coach.

I believe I played tennis with Derek at the York Weston Tennis Club. He was a good guy. My condolences to the Smith Family.
