DONALD DUTTON Obituary
DONALD GRANT DUTTON Journalist, Retired, Toronto Star Peacefully at Ajax-Pickering Hospital on March 17, 2017 at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Gloria for nearly 67 years. Loving dad of David, Philip and Lisa (D'Arcy O'Brien). Cherished Papa of Alexander Dutton (deceased), Rachel Simon (Carl), Taylor Dutton and Cory May. Great-grandfather of Liliana Simon. Dear brother of Stacey Dutton and wife Doris, predeceased by his sister Marion Ferris (late Bill). Adored uncle and great-uncle. Friend, colleague and mentor to many. Don dedicated his life to his family and friends and the last 33 years of his career to the Star, where he was the recipient of numerous awards for reporting and news photography, including two National Newspaper Awards. His retirement was dedicated to fulfilling his dream of flying the airplane that he built himself. His integrity was unquestioned, his work ethic legendary and his generosity immense. Don did many newspaper articles about my father Hector King Sr in Armstrong ON when I was kid/adult.
One of my older sisters stayed with his family briefly and when she was a kid and she always mentioned how Don´s beautiful daughter named Lisa.
In 1980 when I was 20 years old living in Toronto ON on Cowan/King in Parkdale my father asked Don to check up on me to see if I was doing okay. He saw I was doing well and would let my father know.
