Donald Lyons Obituary

DONALD MILLER LYONS 1932 - 2009 Passed away peacefully at home on March 17th in his 77th year. Beloved husband for 42 years to Lee Catherine and devoted father of Donna Michele. Don was a generous, loving and caring man who will be missed by all who knew him. He lived life to the fullest and enriched the lives of those around him with his sense of humour and generosity of spirit. Don was Chairman of the Toronto Firefighters Pension Plan for many years. He spent his working life in the financial industry. He was President and CEO of York Fire and Casualty, Constitution Insurance Company, and Coronet Trust Company. He was one of the youngest partners ever at Wood Gundy. Don was actively involved in fundraising and charitable work for associations such as The Canadian Liver Foundation, The Northern Alberta Children's Research Hospital and The Hospital for Sick Children. Being an animal lover his whole life, his generosity also extended to the World Wildlife Foundation, PETA and The Toronto Humane Society. Memberships included The National Club, The Lambton Golf and Country Club, and the Boca Pointe Country Club. Services will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W. (Bloor and Windermere). The family will receive visitors Thursday, March 19th between 7-9 p.m. and Friday, March 20th between 2-4 p.m., with funeral service being held at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 20th with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the World Wildlife Foundation or the Hospital for Sick Children.

Mrs. Lea Lyons and Family! The Executive of The Toronto Fire Department Superannuation and Benefit Fund wish to convey to you and your family our sincere condolences on the passing of Don. His many years of leadership and guidance as Chairman of our Committee of Trustee's, was, in no small way, responsible for the very successful operation of our pension fund. It was our good fortune and pleasure to work with a gentleman of Don's character and capability.
