DONALD PRATT Obituary

PRATT, DONALD "DON" January 22, 1931 - November 7, 2022 At age 91 ("ssshhh, don't tell anyone!"), I go with many happy thoughts of the past and confident hopes for my surviving family. Daughter, Julie (Geo); grandchildren, Geoff (Angela, Joelle, Greyson), Shannon (Brandon, Zachary); sister-in-law, Margaret; and family members of my darling, predeceased wife, Marilyn. We shared wonderful married life for 56 years with pleasant memories galore. In 1955, we came to Canada right after our wedding – best thing we ever did! Thank you to good friends in Willowdale, Ballantrae, Stouffville and more recently, mid-town Toronto, who all made life interesting and worthwhile, sharing challenging times in strategic planning and concepts, organizing snooker activities, photography assignments, and tenant representation in development. All of these were very rewarding and so much fun! In more recent years, life was enhanced by my good friend, Liv, who introduced me to a new world of art, lectures, and ballet; sharing the daily crossword and companionship has been a joy. And, taking up tennis and badminton in my 80s introduced me to a whole new group of great people who were very patient with me. I have always been proud of our family attitude to life and feel very comforted that they will so continue. - Don. Dad/Papa, you truly lived every day with love for family and friends through boundless positivity in words and actions. Your light is so bright that we know it will continue to shine and get us through any challenges. We are so lucky to have had you in our lives all this time and will honour, love and miss you forever. You've set a high bar to match, but you've taught us to always do our best. Enjoy your next chapter, Dad - I hope you've made your way to the nearest tennis court! Heartfelt thanks to Revera Leaside Seniors Residence for making him feel comfortable and cared for, Mt. Sinai and the Temmy Latner Palliative Team, Sunnybrook and Michael Garron Hospitals. We so much appreciate everything you do every day. As requested by Don, no funeral or memorial will be held. Instead, as he suggested, donations made to his favourite charities, at www.worldvision.ca or www.heartandstroke.ca would be sincerely appreciated.

I was a long time neighbour of Don and remember all his hard work on our Tenant Association, his expertise on the tennis court and of course his daily jaunts to Tim Hortons for his offer and toasted scone and is love of the crossword puzzles and his devotion. His ever ending stories of his new found friends and outings. A great man and a great neighbour. He is greatly missed, I can assure you. Best wishes to his family. Miss that cheery personality and kindness. People like him don´t come around too often.

Don and I had many interesting conversations over coffee hour at Christ Church. I always meant to join him in his new church downtown but never made it. He was a pleasure to be around...his family was so lucky to have him! I will miss him a lot. I'm sure he will be missed by MANY people. He will be too busy to "rest in peace".

What fond memories our family has of Don with his smile, positive attitude and of course his camera.
He had a life well lived and, may your memories offer you comfort and bring you smiles as you move forward.

So sorry to hear that Don has passed away! My wife, Arlene and I became friends with Don and Marilyn when they began to attend Christ Church in Stouffville. Marilyn quickly joined the Altar Guild when Arlene was the Directress. We all became fast friends, visited each others homes and shared meals together. We were terribly upset when Marilyn passed away and Don decided to move into Toronto. He did appear at Christ Church from time to time but we lost contact with him when Covid hit the scene and everything was closed down. Really sorry to hear he has passed away! We will miss both of them. Arlene & Tom

Don was always interested in what was going on at Christ Church in Stouffville. I appreciated his help and the photos he took at our Seniors' Christmas Services each year. Such a friendly and cheerful fellow - he'll be missed.

You were a true friend to me and Julie.. all the bbqs we enjoyed were always fun and memorable.. to feel your love and appreciation will always be cherished..along with your sushi.. and your wittiness was endless.. you were always young at heart and it showed.. by running around the parking lot chasing your great grand daughter to wearing a ponytail was a sight to be seen I was proud to call you a friend ..

Don was a strong advocate for tenants rights in Toronto. Very organized and focussed on detail to a fault. Don won't see the new tower being built at Bretton Place but it will be built with some of the suggestions made by him and his team.

Enjoyed many a good badminton game with Don and shared his enthusiasm for his tennis. He enjoyed playing at the courts at Moore Park. I also enjoyed talking with Don at Tim´s on Yonge St. after our badminton; he was so young at heart and interested in making lives better for other people. Fond memories always of a classy guy.
