Donia Ruel Obituary

Donia RUEL

1967 - 2015

In the early hours of November 16, 2015, after a long fight against breast cancer, Donia passed away quietly in her sleep. The world is a little less bright today without her quick smile, bright eyes and unwavering sense of humour. She leaves behind her parents, sister, sisters-in-law, brothers, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her dear friends, her witnesses to a life well lived. A service will take place on November 20th at the Mount Pleasant Visitation Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road. We will begin with a visitation at 1:00 p.m, followed by a service at 2:00 and a reception from 3:00 - 5:00. Please consider a donation to the Breast Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

My condoléances to the whole family

November 19, 2015

My deepest condolences go out to Donia's family as we, her friends, mourn the passing of a beautiful light. Heartbreaking is this news that she is no longer with us in body but the warmth that emanated from her presence will ensure that her spirit will always be a part of us. Donia, I will play a song for you. I hope that you will all remember her by the beauty in the Christian McBride's rendition of "I'll Write A Song For You" originally done by Earth Wind & Fire. To Donia with love. - Lynden Vassell, friend, British Columbia

I first met Donia when she was barely in her twenties, when she was the receptionist at the Steelworkers' Toronto area office on Cecil Street. She was funny, sweet, with perfect skin and a ready smile. She dressed in Steelworker colours of blue and gold, with lots of sparkles and feathers, in a memorable Caribana parade back then. I had a photo from that day and returned it to her a few years ago. I hope someone close to her still has it. She fought so hard against this terrible disease and never lost her sense of silliness and fun. And she remained as sparkly and beautiful as that day at Caribana so long ago.
