When I was a little boy, my grandparents lived next door to Mrs. Lang on Barbara Crescent. (Even after knowing her for almost sixty years, I can't bring myself to call her anything other than "Mrs. Lang", even though she insisted that I call her Doris). I lived out of town, but my father was ill in hospital in Toronto, so I was at my grandparents' quite often. From the moment me met, Mrs. Lang was a lovely, big-hearted friend. She (and Dixon, too!) always looked out for me, always had a hug for me if I needed one, and there was always at least a few cookies and a glass of coke. Many happy hours were spent in the back yard looking at the garden and watching the birds.
My life was made better for having had Mrs. Lang as my friend.
