DOROTHY VENABLES Obituary
DOROTHY HELEN VENABLES 1924 - 2014 Mrs. Dorothy Helen (Haine) Venables passed away on October 9, 2014 at Belleville General Hospital. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Mr. Gordon William Venables. Dorothy was a very engaged and proud mother to Susan (Frederick) Bendell and Kenneth (Carla) Venables and an attentive grandmother to Ryan (Alex) Venables, Katherine (Jean-Francois) Bendell, Sean Venables, Collin Venables and Kyle Bendell and great- grandmother to Landyn. Dorothy's upbringing in Winnipeg during the Great Depression instilled in her a resilient and resourceful spirit. She was a very capable woman who possessed a curious mind and a thirst for learning. Dorothy mastered many forms of art including quilting, crocheting, basketry, decoupage and wood burning. She continued her passions for design and creation until the end of her life. In many ways, Dorothy was ahead of her time. Dorothy was a founding member of the United Church Women of Iondale Heights United Church in Scarborough and a recent member of Trinity United Church in Madoc, Ontario. Dorothy lived in accordance with her values and was an example of patience and open-mindedness. She was a woman who remained informed about the world yet carried with her an unassuming acceptance of others. She was the first to ease another's suffering, even at the end of her life. Over her ninety years, Dorothy's gentleness and generous spirit touched everyone she met. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was an enthusiastic volunteer who took great interest in others and knew how to give of herself. She found meaning in providing nurturance and support, particularly to her grandchildren. She talked regularly about their lives and was interested in all that they did. Dorothy had a cherished lifelong relationship with her sister, Mrs. Audrey Daniels and spoke with her every day until her last. In accordance with Dorothy's wishes, a small family service will be held to celebrate her life. The world will remember Dorothy by the way that she lived: through every kindness and act of generosity and in all the ways that we honour each other. Arrangements entrusted to the BURKE FUNERAL HOME (613-968-6968), 150 Church St., Belleville.
