DOUGLAS SCOTT CLARK Doug was a dedicated teacher and principal, a keen athlete, a lover of jazz and, above all, a great dad, wonderful grandfather and loving husband to Irene for 61 years. Born in 1925, Doug grew up in east end Toronto. He joined the Air Force and trained as a bomb aimer, but the war ended before he could serve overseas. Doug began his teaching career in Aurora in the late 1940s, where he also played on the town's senior B hockey team. He went on to teach at George R. Gauld, Seventh St., Second St. and John English schools in south Etobicoke. He opened the new David Hornell School in 1961 as a rookie principal. He also served as principal at Richview, Fairhaven and Braeburn schools before retiring in 1986. He enjoyed an active retirement, cycling in summer and skating in winter well into his 80s. An avid genealogist, he sketched the Clark family tree back to the early 1700s. Doug organized the annual luncheon of his boyhood chums known as the Wayland Gang. He also found tremendous joy and satisfaction as an active grandfather to his two grandchildren: Mitchell and Madeleine Clark. Join Irene, children Valorie, Brian, Ron and Nancy, daughter-in-law Joanne, son-in-law Mark and grandchildren Mitchell and Madeleine in a celebration of Doug's life. Visitation and a celebration of life will take place at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, Kipling Chapel, 2058 Kipling Ave., Toronto (north of Rexdale Blvd.) on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will take place in the funeral home chapel on Monday, January 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
