Douglas GWILLIAM Obituary

GWILLIAM, Douglas Ross After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease, passed away peacefully at Extendicare Halton Hills on December 7, 2017, with his wife, Lynn by his side. Doug was born in Etobicoke on January 22, 1944 to William and Hilda Gwilliam and was predeceased by his older brother Robert. He will be forever missed by his wife of 43 years Lynn (nee Morrison) and his cherished daughter Jennifer Lynn. Doug will be forever remembered by David and Margaret Morrison, Paul and Maureen Morrison as well as his nieces and nephews, Janet, Kenny, John, Judy, David, Stephanie, Michael, Samantha and Stephen. As well, he is survived by several grandnieces, nephews and many adoring longtime friends. Lynn and Jennifer are especially appreciative of the support Doug's friends and family have demonstrated during his illness. Throughout his life Dougie was an accomplished athlete and played on an assortment of sports teams throughout the city. He particularly excelled in hockey (Dixie Bee Hives) and baseball at Christie Pits (Primo). However, from his early twenties Doug's greatest passion became golf and before long he joined the North Halton Golf and Country Club. He lived and breathed and practised the game and was rewarded with five hole-in-ones and a handicap of two! Along with the game, he relished the camaraderie of his golf buddies and their annual getaway tournament (The Valley Closed Open). Doug also held special memories from his two trips to Scotland, the home of golf. As per his request, cremation has taken place and the family wishes any memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario. Family and friends whose lives Doug has touched are invited to join in a celebration of his life. Dougie always loved a party, so write a message on a birthday card, bring it along and join Lynn and Jennifer at his last big Birthday Bash on Sunday, January 21st at Boaden's Banquet Centre, 505 Queensway E., Mississauga (Spanish Room) from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
