Edith BROWN Obituary

BROWN (HICKSON), Edith Victoria Audrey Born May 24, 1930 Died October 1, 2017 In her 88th year. Loving wife for over 65 years to George Douglas Brown. Devoted mother to Nancy (Brown) and Michael Andison and Douglas and Yvonne Brown and grandmother to Nicholas and Patrick Andison and Julian and Jordan Brown. Predeceased by her cousin/brother Murray Juffs. Fondly remembered by family and her many friends. Audrey grew up in Beaverton, Ontario where she and George met in high school. She graduated from Normal School in Toronto and first taught there at Maurice Cody School. After marrying, George and Audrey moved to Pickering where they both taught school, built their home and raised their family. Audrey and George operated Glenrothes Shorthorn Farm in Beaverton together for some 60 years, moving there permanently in 1984. Audrey was the consummate hostess, welcoming visitors from near and far who dropped in to Glenrothes to visit, tour the cattle and enjoy a cup of tea. A strong community supporter, Audrey worked tirelessly as a volunteer at the Pickering and Beaverton Presbyterian Churches and for many community organizations. Audrey always had a special place in her heart for those who had less fortunate circumstances or for whom life had been unkind and would offer generously her friendship and support. Family and friends will be received at the Mangan Funeral Home, Beaverton, on Thursday, October 5th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 6th at the Beacan Presbyterian Church in Beaverton. Interment Stone Church Cemetery, Beaverton. If so desired memorial donations in memory of Audrey, to the Beacan Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
