Elisabeth JAMMER Obituary

JAMMER, Elisabeth Margarete (nee PREM) Elisabeth Margarete Jammer (Prem), passed away at her home, on September 1, 2022, with family at her side. She was born in 1939, in Nuremberg, Germany, to Austrian mother (Anna Prem, nee Wick) and father (Franz Prem) and spent her childhood in the Austrian Alps in Schwarzau im Gebirge. She moved to Germany, settling in Bremen, where she worked as a photographer and in a photo lab and met her future life partner, Arthur Jammer, who was travelling from Canada. She crossed the Atlantic on a small freighter to Canada in September 1966, after a year of writing back and forth and they married in February 1967. She continued working in the photography field in Toronto, first at Chas Abel and then at Ryerson. She and Art lived in Willowdale and in 1977 settled in their family home in Stouffville. After 12 years of marriage and lots of prayers from her Aunt Steffi, they had a child, Michael. She stayed home to care for him while actively volunteering at the Markham Stouffville Hospital and the Toronto Zoo. She also enjoyed cross-country skiing, camping, various forms of folk art (painting, weaving, crochet, stained glass) and being at the cottage on Lake Simcoe. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Jammer (2016), her brother, Horst (2019), and her parents and her darling cat, Abby. She is survived by her son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Susan Robertson, her grandchildren, Fiona and Rowan (as well as Susan's sister, Amanda and her three children, Gwen, Sam and Griffin), nephews (Clint, Kurt, Thomas, Martin, Ruediger, Juergen); and nieces (Anke, Ute). Thanks to Dr. Hajra and the Markham-Stouffville Hospital Chemotherapy Clinic team and Dr. Patterson and the Palliative Care team for support as she lived with terminal cancer over the last 1.5 years. Thanks also to friends and neighbours on South Street in Stouffville for their caring attention and loving support. A service at the Stouffville Cemetery will be held on Saturday, October 1st, at 1:30 p.m. and a Celebration of Life will be held at the family home, 338 South Street, starting at 2:30 p.m.

We first met Art and Elisabeth in Willowdale, in the early 70's. They were both beautiful, loving people who richly deserved having such a wonderful son as Michael. His little family meant so much to Elisabeth and were a great comfort. We would like to talk to Michael but have no contact details at all, apart knowing they live in Georgetown. So this is by way of sending our dearest love to the family and hoping we can have an email from them. Gillian & Louis Cooper xx

Elisabeth was our neighbour for many years. She was a remarkable, courageous, and strong lady. When her health was failing, she never gave up. We will never forget our dear friend.

May the LORD bless her,

Carol and Pastor Richard

I met Elisabeth approximately 10 years ago. From the first day that I met her I felt as though we had become friends. It takes a certain type of person to make others feel comfortable like she did. When I met here family Mike and Susan I felt the same way. She obviously had a hand in that. And the best was when I met her grandchildren Fiona and Rowan, well I felt like I knew them all their life. The world needs more people like Elisabeth. She will be dearly missed..Sharon Webster

I was so sorry to hear of her passing. She was incredibly thoughtful and kind. A beautiful person inside and out. I extend my heartfelt condolences to Michael and his family and to all of her family members and friends who are mourning her loss.
