Elizabeth Skerrett Obituary

Elizabeth Mae SKERRETT

On January 31, 2017 Elizabeth passed away peacefully at Bridgepoint Hospital, Toronto, in her 68th year following a brief illness with cancer. Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, on September 14, 1949 to Cecil and Anita Skerrett. Elizabeth was warm, compassionate, generous and a valued member of the Cabbagetown Community, most notably through her thousands of hours of charity work at both Saint Luke's United Church and Dixon Hall Meals-on-Wheels program. Having lived most of her life in Toronto, Elizabeth embraced the music, visual arts and numerous performances and festivals the city always had to offer. Among her family, she is remembered as being courageous through life's challenges, resolutely independent and gracious. Elizabeth is known by her friends as always supportive with a kind soul and members of her church remember her as always being such a presence of quiet grace. Loving mother to Shaniah Leduc and son-in-law Scott and step-grandmother to Katherine who loved her shortbread cookies and remembers her as always being generous with gifts to all she knew. Elizabeth cared deeply for the well-being of her brother Glyn and sister-in-law Marleen, niece Kristy and nephew Gregory (Suzanne) Skerrett and brothers William (Rhea) and Albert. She was a beloved friend to many from her church and community whose friendships Elizabeth so dearly cherished and to whom her family is thankful for enriching her life. We are grateful to Elizabeth's dedicated family physician Dr. Susan Shepherd and nurse Barbara for their years of support and more recently the care teams from the Temmy Latner Centre, CCAC (Mary and Claudia) and all staff at Bridgepoint 4 North. A memorial service will be held in the spring at her church, Saint Luke's United Church. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Luke's United Church, 353 Sherbourne St., Toronto, ON M5A 2S3.

As the white light has carried you to the angels may you find peace and be with those who have previously passed and love you knowing that you are still loved and missed by those you have left on earth.
