Ellen and I became friends in nursery school at age 3 and lost touch about ten years later. We reconnected about two years ago during Covid to share memories (and pictures!). I had reached out to her because I had long wondered where life's journey would take this bright, creative child who loved to write and create wonderful stories. There she was, an established writer: no surprise. I was so glad we were able to re-establish our friendship during her brave fight with cancer. (Ellen is second from the right in the front row; I am on her left.)

I am sad to hear that Ellen Jaffe died and glad that she had three years after her diagnosis to live fully and visit her son and his family and be with her much loved partner. Ellen did a lot of good in this world. She had a kind heart, and her poetry reached many people. She will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences to Ellen's family and friends.
Ellen was a remarkable individual with whom I'd had the privilege of sharing the mic at many a poetry reading (including my own). The person (like the poetry) was kind, gracious and beautifully lyrical.

We were lucky when she would come to a writing workshop . She encouraged us all about all our writing and whenever I had writers block with one gentle suggestion would open the flood gates it was such a joy and Honor to be in her presence. Thank you Ellen for your company and guidance , every time I pick up pen and paper I will think of you. I will miss you.

"I will miss seeing her face and hearing her voice, and knowing that she was always there, even when afar...
She has crossed a river that I must wait to cross before I see her again.
When I see a river I will think of her"
Terry Kay.
May we traverse, in time, the crags and slopes of sorrow, to come at last into that beautiful valley of peace and revelation, where the flowers of her memory bloom forever.

not in this care-laden world of man,
but there where only peace and love avow

Ellen was a regular contributor to our Ontario Arts Review website (44 articles) including one presented by Nunavut's Qaggio Collective entitled "KIVIUQ" which attracted appreciative letters from Indigenous chiefs across Canada. She was erudite, insightful and her submissions never needed editing! She was a delight and will be missed. Our condolences to all her family and numerous friends.
