ELLEN SCOTT Obituary

ELLEN SCOTT (nee OLENA BALAK) April 13, 1924 - April 11, 2016 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother. Predeceased in 1977 by husband, Tom, Ellen will be missed by her four daughters: Karen (Glenn Tetu), Sandra, Diane and Linda (Charles Ireland). She was thrilled to become a grandmother and she loved her Megan and Lauren very much. She is also survived by siblings Marta Balak, John Balak, Margaret Stadnicki and Bette Wesley. Her faithful companion, Sterling, will miss her too. Mom was born on a farm just north of Grandview, Manitoba. She was the middle child of 15 born to Pearl (Kotyk) and Andrew Balak. When World War II began, Mom moved to Winnipeg and worked for MacDonald Brothers Aircraft. She later moved to Toronto and worked for The Wartime Prices and Trade Board. It was there that she met Tom. In the late 1960s, she joined the Ontario civil service and worked in a variety of ministries. Upon retirement, Mom was involved in activities that she enjoyed: volunteering (at St. Joseph's Healthcare and Highbourne Lodge), travelling and attending symphony, ballet and theatre productions. Sadly, Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2007. In 2013, she moved from her beloved home, that she had lived in since 1955, into The Village of Humber Heights. Her family is grateful to Dr. Laura Fisch and Dr. David Giddens and to the entire staff of Humber Heights, especially the staff of Emma and Lambton neighbourhoods, for their wonderful care and compassion. There will be a private family service. Those who wish may make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer Society of Canada. Online condolences are welcome at www.wardfuneralhome.com "And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."

Dear Daine and family,
Your mother was such a kind warm and caring lady with a good sense of humour.
Always so well dressed - a Grand Lady so well cared for by her loving daughters. Diane shared some lovely young photos of you and I am thankful for that. Praying for you and family for strength and peace. Our deepest condolences.
